Beowulf Mining is yet to secure an environmental permit, and parliamentary approval for its plans came with a long list of caveats. These include making an effort to minimise the impact on reindeer herding, and offering compensation to Sami if they need to adapt the way they work, for instance by putting the reindeer on trucks to move them round the mining area.

Can anyone really imagine getting a large herd of reindeer onto trucks every time they need to pass the mining area?

This proposal shows the Swedish government consider the Sami to be fools who can be placated with a ridiculous offer.

Happens here too.

It appears CEO has government/PM ear. Any consultation with Sami probably involved plugs.

Another example of how government succumb to lobbiests, ignore the needs of and potential outcomes for indigenous people and traditional industry and lifestyle.

Apparently, taking more natural resources out of the Earth is the green thing to do for a sustainable future.
