In just a week, it will have been ten years since this date came and went without anything other than festivities in local communities celebrating the
calendar cycle's new beginning. I still remember the constant doomposting and theories leading up to the day only for most of it to disappear about a
week before the date—as if everyone subconsciously knew it wasn't going to happen. That was very strange then, but what's stranger now is if this
year was 2012 and everything going on the world now were happening then (the conflict between Russian and Ukraine, the unrest due to the Brazil
election, Title 42 ending on the 21st coincidentally, etc.), people would actually be even more convinced that something was going to happen.
In a way, a lot of good has come from the prediction not living up to expectations. There hasn't been a single end date since then that has caught on
to the extent this one did, and that prevents a lot of people from falling for prophetic dates anymore. Also, people are less likely to believe any
predictions in general unless they have a significant amount of evidence to back them up. Maybe this is why nothing significant has been predicted for
this date's 10th anniversary (although I wouldn't be surprised if something was purposefully orchestrated just to mess with the consciousness of the
population).
So, here's to 10 years of living in the new cycle of the Mayan calendar!
