Well ,

" There are about 1,350 potentially active volcanoes worldwide, aside from the continuous belts of volcanoes on the ocean floor at spreading centers like the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. About 500 of those 1,350 volcanoes have erupted in historical time. Many of those are located along the Pacific Rim in what is known as the "Ring of Fire." In the United States, volcanoes in the Cascade Range and Alaska (Aleutian volcanic chain) are part of the Ring, while Hawaiian volcanoes form over a 'hot spot' near the center of the Ring. "

And this has what to do with my post ?

" Source? This is an age old MEME that is BS. Total CO2 produced by all active volcanoes a year is between .13 - .44 gigaton while man produces 36.3 BILLION gigatons..."

It has to do with the Disinformation with the Above Claim .

My disinformation? WHAT? My post was in response to the silly Volcanoes produce more C02 in a day than ... Which is complete disinformation.

I misquoted the article by adding billion gigatons.. It is still volcanos produce between .13 - .44 gigatons of C02 annually while humans produce 36-44 (Depending on your source) .

Calling my post disinformation and not the other is a good chuckle.

So this is correct? Man produces 280 times more C02 than volcanoes - so either this is sarcasm or wrong.

You’re saying you actually believe a human puts out 36-44 billion metric tons of CO2 annually?

I’m not an expert but this seems a bit off lol!

There are reports after reports detailing how this is true. They vary in estimates, but they are all fairly consistent in putting the range they come up with.

I don't understand how you could deny the fact that we leave a pretty large footprint from a carbon perspective. I'm also continuing to laugh at the people who choose not to believe. My comment in the thread was to dispute a stupid internet urban legend that volcanos emit more C02 than humans do, which is 100% false and it isn't even close.

People just hate it when their favourite anti enviro memes turn out to be untrue. It's nothing personal I'm sure.

Update on the actual eruption (oh, is that what this thread is about? I thought we were discussing C02 emissions!):

Rift Zone of #MaunaLoa this morning. Fountains of fissure 3 were measured up to 25 m (82 ft) in height. More spectacular photos and videos available on the Mauna Loa website. ow.ly...

twitter.com...

Video (a.gif) at link showing fountains. Eruption has ceased at summit crater, and is solely on the east rift zone. Seismicity easing a bit today overall, but was intense last night.

All "natural" C02 sources (i.e. not manmade) = approximately 750 Gigatons. Hmmm.

I think what he's trying to point to is the claim (it's everywhere) that each human is good for about 4 and a half tons of co2 per annum, multiplied by 8 billion souls puts the claimed figure at around 36 gigatons. Personally, I simply do not believe that it is possible to get anywhere near an accurate measurement of these emissions. The earth gets hotter, then cooler, repeat, ad infinitum.
As to the thread, I hope everyone in the vicinity stays safe, it's a big unit, capable of massive damage.
