Early reports are that the B-17 was most likely Texas Raiders, but that isn’t confirmed yet.

I read there’s only around ten airworthy ones left while reading about this. Not sure how valid the source was though.

Saddens me as such great history are dwindling away. Only memories.

But hopefully not forgotten.

I believe she was repainted green, and converted to a pre G model, and renamed Ye Old Pub.

Looks to me like the B-17 was lost in the P-63's blind spot under the fuselage and wings. Terrible accident.

Apologizes it was Highway 67 sounds like it was scattered debris

www.wbap.com...

DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF)= A mid air plane collision during a Veteran’s Day airshow out of the Dallas Executive Airport has left debris scattered on areas of Highway 67, with that highway shut down both directions between Red Bird Lane and Hampton Road.
Officials are responding to reports of a mid air collision that occurred during the Commemorative Air Force Wings Over Dallas show Saturday afternoon – Jason Evans, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman, said two planes collided about 1:30 p.m. at Dallas Executive Airport in the 5300 block of Challenger Drive, near U.S. Highway 67 in Red Bird. Our media partner WFAA-TV (Channel 8) says the crash involved a Boeing B-17. By 2 pm, Evans said he did not know the condition of the pilots or any possible injuries received by onlookers.

In a video shared online, In a video shared on social media, the B-17 appeared to have hit a smaller plane as it began to turn. Reports indicate the front of the B-17 broke off and the plane erupted into flames as they hit the ground. Details are still coming into the newsroom; updates as available.

The more I watch it the more it looks deliberate?? Maybe not, I'm no expert, but couldn't the pilot of the smaller plane manoeuvred past the b17 ?

No doubt the media will be giving WWII aircraft at airshows a bad look because of this, but I believe in preserving flying history, and putting safety as the first priority.
These are more than just historic aircraft. They are teachers.
These aircraft are the closest things to living WWII history many people will ever get, especially our younger generations, and to see and hear these aircraft in person at an airshow is a life changing and educational experience we should continue to preserve.
It is a terrible tragedy for the pilots and crew, their family, and the history surrounding these aircraft. The groups that operate these aircraft strive for safety in every corner of their operations, I've flown in aircraft with the Commemorative Air Force as well as the Collings Foundation, and a few other small warbird preservation groups over the years and they are home to some of the best aviators/aviatrixes around.

My condolences to all of the families of the six who lost their lives in these aircraft today.

The P-63 has restricted visibility from the cockpit. As soon as he rolled the wings up he couldn’t see the bomber. Formation flying can go wrong for experienced pilots very quickly. If they aren’t as experienced, it can go wrong faster (comment by a former Eagle driver). He misjudged his closing distance, and where he was in relation to the bomber, went into a turn and lost sight of them.
