What is the top plane?

And what is this plane?

Are any of these aircraft developed in Area 51?

The top one is the Joint Strike Fighter, the other one is the one that lost the contract I believe. Forget the name.

I would doubt they were tested there.

The project is the Joint Strike Fighter, the one who won the project is the one on the top, the F-35 (formerly the X-35). It was competing to be the Joint Strike Fighter with the X-32 which was the one on the bottom. The X-32 lost so the X-35 became the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

Totally correct... The upper one which looks like an aircraft is the Lockheed Martin X-35 (now F-35 JSF).
The other one on the second pic who looks like a whale is the Boeing X-32, which lost the contract.

GodAtum,

As an addendum they were tested at Edwards AFB.

I saw the coolest thing on tv a year or two ago. Some news channel had filmed a B-2 and a Mig-29 flying together over Area 51. Remember the U.S got it's hands on some Mig-29s a few years ago.

NWGuy,

If you like that sort of thing I can recommend "Dark Eagles". It is about the testing that went on at Groom Lake.

If I can remember the author I will post it for you.

Cheers

God,

Thanks for posting that.

Have you read it?

Of all the books on the topic I find it to be the best.

I give it two thumbs up.

Cheers
