This one is going to cost them, luckily they didn't kill anyone this time. This insanity of no knock raids when there is ZERO investigation is just pure insanity. The police should take some tactics from criminals. Send someone disguised as a utility person to check the gas lines, etc.

How hard is it to actually confirm before sending a SWAT team to destroy property and in many cases kill you pets and possibly kill you. Five minutes of detective work could prevent probably half or more of these senseless raids.

SWAT

Even in states with legal marijuana, law enforcement's addiction to the drug war still lingers like a dark cloud over over the land of the ostensibly free.

Because of their addiction to the war on drugs, cops in Riverside County have just cost the taxpayers of their town $136,000. The money was paid to Chen-Chen Hwang, 67, and her husband, Jiun-Tsong Wu, 75, to settle a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging that their two homes were broken into by armed agents of the state and ransacked as officers looked for non-existent marijuana plants.

According to Alex Coolman, the attorney who filed the suit on behalf of the elderly couple, police were monitoring power bills of town residents and used the low amount of the couple's bill as reason to believe they were growing marijuana.

Apparently police in Riverside County monitor power consumption and when they see low power usage, they automatically assume that people are stealing power to grow marijuana.

How many idiots don't even understand that you and I are paying for this.

The people involved in making the decision to execute the raid should be held personally responsible. Only then will this stupidity stop.

Anyone else notice this was in California?
Or was that just a wild guess?

Keep funding your prisons, people.

This is insane. I can understand the need for no knock warrants in some cases, but it seems like they're becoming the default.

There's no excuse for MJ to even be an issue, except as a tool for politicians to keep people fighting.

Just like the border issue, it can, should and would be solved if we had any kind of representation in DC. Either make it legal at a federal level or outlaw alcohol too.

Stealing power? Not likely.

They look for the drop in power usage because they assume the crops are ready, so they can steal them for reselling and other purpose.

That is insane! It used to be that if your electric bill shot up and stayed up, they suspected a grow operation. Then the next step would to have been to get thermo-graphic imaging of the buildings to locate the grow rooms.

So now they can target you in a warrant if your electric bill is to high or too low. If you try and comply with the green agenda and have too many solar panels, that will get your home raided too since that maybe how you are powering the grow rooms.

I'm tired of walking on these egg shells all the time. Can't say this, can't do that, can't have cash on hand or your a drug dealer, better have an average electric bill or your manufacturing drugs, do anything at all and you are labeled the bad guy and bum rushed through the system. This is a corrupt predatory government that is out of control.

That thin blue line is getting thinner every day.

There is no justification for green-lighting a raid over low power consumption.

How do they even have grounds to wholesale monitor private residential power consumption without due cause.

Well , now , at least we know one reason for the power companies' smart meters.
