I’ve lived in Colorado twice (not by choice) I really dislike it there.
Lots of people absolutely love that state, I don’t get it.

To me it is a very depressing place, it has a vibe I don’t enjoy.

Denver NO.
Boulder, however, is very beautiful.

Your thread title is deceiving. People who had their home thermostats frozen were voluntarily participating in a rebate program with the local power company.

Where di you get your info?
It says in his link

Residents in Colorado were surprised this week when they were unable to adjust the smart meters in their own home.

TGP , as a source, pretty much always leaves out critical details in order to shape their vision of a story for its target audience.

Still this is taken from the Denver7 link in that source article.

Xcel confirmed to Contact Denver7 that 22,000 customers who had signed up for the Colorado AC Rewards program were locked out of their smart thermostats for hours on Tuesday.

"It's a voluntary program. Let's remember that this is something that customers choose to be a part of based on the incentives," said Emmett Romine, vice president of customer solutions and innovation at Xcel.

Customers receive a $100 credit for enrolling in the program and $25 annually, but Romine said customers also agree to give up some control to save energy and money and make the system more reliable.

"So, it helps everybody for people to participate in these programs. It is a bit uncomfortable for a short period of time, but it's very, very helpful," said Romine.

The fact that they can shut it off is not good which is why I have smart nothing in my home. Except my phone. Lol They can do so much through your phone. I bet they could even drive you crazy with.

tell yall something else the power company wants me to do, they want me to buy insurance from them for my meter box for lighting damage.

i told them this house was my parents and is 65 years old and never once has the meter box been damaged by lighting even when we did take a strike. been here when the nearest neighbor was 2 miles away and we were at the end of the line and got a spike from strikes every summer. any one whose ever been at the end of the power lines knows that lighting travels to that point. over the years my folks repaired tv's, vcr's,refrigerators, window and central air conditioners until it got cheaper to buy a new than repair them.

i talked to my now closest neighbor a 1/2 mile away and his house is 20 years old and at the end of the line now, and never been damaged by lighting either, about them wanting to do that. he told me he checked into it and they came out inspected it and wanted him to upgrade his to newer meter box before they would cover it. he told them to get bent. he'd just wait until his got damaged, replace it and might call them back then.

Horrible incentives for something that no one thought would happen, I would be curious to know if this program has ever been used before….

People are dumb, sure, either they didn’t read the fine print (who does) or they didn’t think that would ever happen, yet it’s happening.

I bet that 25 bones a year incentive won’t be worth it when their residence is 85 degrees and they have the system, but not the ability, to fix that.

They need to start with disabling the Air conditioning in Government buildings.

I remember one time, during a previous power shortage in California years ago, Jay Leno showed his audience a live webcam of the offices of some CA power utility. It was after hours, and the place was empty.

As Jay eloquently pointed out, EVERY GODDAMN LIGHT WAS ON!!!

You know , it's seems Odd to me that ONLY Blue States Controlled by Liberal Democrats seem to have a Problem with Keeping Infrastructure Running Smoothly in their States due to Bad Governance .........

I guess you forgot about Texas in 2021.

“In February 2021, an extreme winter storm event caused a massive electricity generation failure in the state of Texas, which resulted in a loss of power for more than 4.5 million homes. This failure has resulted in at least 57 deaths across 25 Texas counties and over $195 billion in property damage, bringing attention to the energy system crisis and its potential causes.”

In the summer here, if it's 90 something outside, 80 something inside is noticeable and feels cool. However in the winter 80 something is intolerable to me and 70 feels warm.

Due to the cold winters here in Michigan, I will never complain about a heat wave, but I want to. Humidity is what kills me with the heat around here, it's much drier out west and likely more tolerable, not that I'm trying to make any excuses.

Y'know, it wouldn't be that hard, really, to set up a backup thermostat that could be switched over without the power company even knowing. Just needs to be hidden and a relay set up inside the heating unit. Thermostat stops working? Flip a switch. Power company wants to check it? Flip it back.

Even if they had sensors built in to look for things like that, it wouldn't be hard to tie the thermostat in "off" position to a dummy load so it would be undetectable.

Oh, sorry, did I say that out loud?

Everyone please ignore me. I'm just a dumb, gimped-up hick from rural Alabama. I don't know what I'm talking about... really...

this is a voluntary program. We have this in NC as well. If you sign up for this, then have that silly look on your face when they do, exactly what they said they would do, don't you have to realize this is what you signed up for? Do we not take responsibility for our own actions anymore? I thought we were supposed to be better than that.

I have said this and posted evidence that Chavez and Maduro did the same thing democrats/the left want to do to the U.S.

In Venezuela "electricity rationing" was put in place "to fight climate change." But these imbeciles, sorry but that's what they are for supporting this idiocy, still continue to support these drastic changes.

Even when these "Green policies" will affect the poorest Americans, which include many leftists/anti-Trump cultists themselves these people continue to back for their own destruction and don't care what will happen to anyone including their own families.

Yet, we kept hearing from the proponents to these drastic changes, like AOC, that they were not going to make the U.S. into Venezuela when they are following Chavez/Maduro's socialist/communist take over and implementing it in the U.S.
