I am sure most English speaking people, or people who speak other languages and not Spanish, probably don't know Jeanette. But when I first heard her
in Madrid's "radio Vinilo" I fell in love with her voice and her music. Although she also sang some songs in English, since she could speak English
Italian and Spanish.
In the whole Spanish speaking world she became very famous, and to this day her songs are still heard in Spanish radio stations.
When I saw a picture and a video of her the first time, not only was I in love with her singing, but had a crush on her as a child and young adult.
ATS is not allowing me to access my pictures to upload her photo.
In Cuba a lot of international singers were not allowed to be played after the "socialist/communist revolution." It actually took a long time for a
radio station called "Nocturno" that the socialist/communist revolution sometime in the 70s allowed SOME international singers to be played again on
the radio.
I only remember hearing her songs and about her in Spain in the 80s when I was still a child. When my family and I migrated legally to the U.S. in
1989 I took with me a lot of tapes of radio vinilo, and many of the songs of Jeanette and other singers. Which i used to listen to as I attended
Junior High and High School.
One of my favorite songs of hers is called "Frente a Frente" which in English she translated into "Sorrow." This version is in English.
The same song in Spanish.
Corazon de Poeta/Heart of a Poet, written by Manuel Alejandro who also wrote some other songs that Jeanette used to sing.
This song she has also sang in English. Although in English it doesn't have the same allure as in Spanish.
The song in English changes so much that it is almost a different song.
Another very famous of her songs is "Soy Rebelde" AKA"I am a rebel"
Soy Rebelde/I am a rebel in English, sang by Jeanette.
This one in English is very close to how she sings it in Spanish.
"Porque Te Vas" / "Why are You leaving" Yet another very famous song of hers, which was written by Jose Luis Perales, who is another famous Spanish
speaking singers and one of my favorite singers as well.
Why are you leaving with English subtitles.
El muchacho de los ojos tristes aka "The Young Man with the Sad Eyes."
El muchacho de los ojos tristes/The Young Man with the Sad Eyes with English subtitles.
Comienzame a vivir /Start living me
She has many other songs, quite a few in English as well, that became famous.
