What are those "energy levels" then?

6.8 TeV beam energy and 13.6 TeV collision energy.

For a comparison, that's approximately 10,000,000 and 5,000,000 times (respectively) less than the energy an 100 W light bulb uses in a second.

I have no words for the drought right now. My wife and I live next to Epping Forest in Essex, to the NE of London and the place is just arid right now. Walking on the local golf course and grasslands is like walking on straw - everything's dried up and brown. The local river is nothing more than a trickle, there is about to be a hosepipe ban, the ground is like concrete.
I'm nervously awaiting the first inevitable wildfire. It shouldn't affect us, we live far enough away from the forest, but we've had fires before and there's something quietly terrifying about walking past gorse and smelling smoke.
Our birdbath is metal and I'm having to top it up more often than normal, because it's just absorbing the heat and the water is evaporating.
I'm old enough to remember 1976 and the last great drought, but this is worse.

So, not very scary, then?

Yes it is worse.

I topped up one of our ponds (4m X 3m by 1m deep) last week with the hose on all night and am having to do it again now. And no, it's not leaking.

But they're not.

More misinformation and doom porn?

Again?

Didn't they just turn on the large collider?

The Large Hadron Collider has been turned back on today (July 5) and is set to smash particles together at never-before-seen energy levels

What possibly could go wrong? when they are smashing never before seen energy levels?

What like the energy of a flying mosquito?

lhc-machine-outreach.web.cern.ch...

We're doomed!

Today I opened the Bible and my sight fell on Psalm 107 (in the Russian Bible it is 106).

In it I read:

33 God changed rivers into desert, springs of water into thirsty ground,
34 Fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the wickedness of its people.

After that, I remembered the topic.

I'm not implying anything.

I'm just telling you what happened a few minutes ago.

In any case, if in Europe they begin to remember God more often, this will not make anyone feel worse.

I am near Amboise in the centre of France... You are quite right concerning à "scorched earth" scénario. Everything is crispy dry and ready to burn.

Kindest respects

at this point if we have a very mild winter followed by another summer like this one then we do risk repeating the conditions of 76 that gave us swarms of 24 billion lady birds..

though you are right to be concerned about wildfire especially those out with disposable BBQs.. I live in wetlands and are concerned though the grass here is still green those BBQs are a big risk every year.
