An alert blasted over a loudspeaker at several New Hampshire Seacoast beaches to evacuate due to an incident at the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant was a false alarm, 7NEWS has learned.

Beachgoers heard the alert in towns including Seabrook, Hampton and Rye and quickly evacuated. However, the Seabrook Fire Department said the announcement was false, but they’re now fielding “hundreds of calls” from people confused over the situation.

So yesterday in Seabrook NH, the nuclear power plant caused chaos. The sirens went off, which has happened before, but the scariest part was that PA announcements played on all local beached to evacuate due to an incident at the power plant. Turns out to be a false alarm. Surely there has to be some level of approval with checks and balances to send out a message like that?? Could there be a disgruntled employee? A hack? Could there really be an accident they're not telling us about?

Not to mention it was a 90 degree day in mid July, My 14 year old son heard the announcements playing at his Moms' house and called scared and confused.

In my 30 plus years of living within 20 miles of the plant this by far was the scariest occurrence.

Sounds like a very suspect event.

Either an epic mistake...

of a deliberate event.

But why would anyone want to hurt the public perception of say nuclear power?

Chances are they are just preparing for the nuclear attack, while this was a 'power plant' crisis. NYC recently got a PSA on what to do in a nuclear attack. So my guess is they are probably testing the reaction and course of the public before final detonation.

The fact they did a PSA announcement a few days ago followed by this. Leaves me to believe they are going to try and make the public get use to the BS before the actual strike occurs to cause the most casualties, when people say. "Oh, its just another test 10th one this week along our coast. Just ignore it, it will end in 10 minutes or so.".

well i live 50 miles from a plant in heartsville. its a shame that they could not complete the exspansion because of hippies.
Anyway those things are really scary to hear go off. especially if you hear the meltdown imminent sound go off.
And DO NOT stand near one when they set it off without ear protection.
