The Reactionary Conspiracy 11. The year 1947.

The Zodiac’s “Red Phantom” letter was mailed on 8 July 1974. It can be seen here.



It was mailed exactly on the 27th anniversary of the so called Roswell incident, which happened near the New Mexican town of Corona. Note how 74 is backwards 47, this means we have to start our search from the end of the text and go back to the beginning. Also, New Mexico was the 47th state admitted to the USA.

The 47th word of the text is “Red”, with a very big R, so we have the first letter: R. There are five black lines in the text, so this indicates us we are looking for five items.

We start with the first black line in the 9th row. It says “write an o” (blue arrow), so we do that (purple underlining) and get the second letter: O.

Following that we go to the 4th row and read “a s” (blue arrow), so we have the third letter: S.

We see the M from the word “Marco” points (blue arrow) towards a “w” in the third row, which is followed by an “h”, we notice also that the t from the word “the” points toward the black line in this third row, so that’s how we get the fourth letter: W.

We observe that the black line below this W points towards an “e” and an “h”, and we notice the small black line from “hell-hole” goes before an “h”, so we get the fifth letter: E.

We exclude the repeated letters from “hell-hole” and end up with “l o”, we follow the path from the W to this “l” (blue arrows) and that’s how we get the sixth letter: L.

Then we read in the 2nd row: “Marc o back in” and we see this last “n” pointing towards the W, so we do again the same operation we did to obtain the sixth letter, and add another “l” to the black line in the first row, which is how we get the seventh and last one of the letter: L.

This Roswell incident is widely believed to be the beginning of the ufology, a phenomenon consisting in alleged sightings of flying ships manned by extraterrestrial beings.

Furthermore, the mentioned 47th word “Red” is also a reference to New Mexico by itself: There is a Red Lake in NM, a Red River located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (Sangre de Cristo meaning Blood of Christ in Spanish), a town called Red River and a state park called Red Rock Park, that contains a natural landmark called the Church Rock. which gives name to a nearby location.

So this decoded message is a clear reference to the Roswell incident that took place in 1947 in New Mexico, USA and its connection to the ufologic phenomenon.

We notice the black line where we put the O touches the left edge, so we put the letter sideways to the left and the we realize the two majuscules “I”next to the “S” and the “O” from “Roswell” have now become two big “H”. So, as H equals to 8, we now have a sixteen.



So we go to the 16th word of the text, which is “psychological”. Then we notice that the “l” from this word points (green arrow) toward the black line where we put the W before.

In the second row the big M from the word “Marco” is like a reversed W, and this is confirmed by the fact that it has a “w” beneath it. At the right side of this M we have the letters “ar” pointed by an “h” below them, so this means we have to put this “ar” below the “h” from the “the” of this second row (blue arrow). Thus, we get the word “war”. The “he” from the word “whence” and the two “he” next to the black line from the third row indicates us we only need two letters (ar) to complete this word.

We notice the “t” from the word “the” in the second row points toward this black line in the third row. That “t” looks like an “f”, and the horizontal line of this “t/f” points toward the “n” from the word “in”. This “n” is written in such a way that resembles an “ar”, while pointing in turn towards the “e” from the word “came”. So now we have the second and last word: “warfare”. We know there are only two words due to number of “I/H” we started with.

Thus, the meaning of this deciphered message is: Psychological warfare.

So with this letter, the reactionary conspirators announced they created the whole Roswell incident and that it was an act of psychological warfare against the United States of America.

By the way, the last sentence “red with rage” looks like an anagram of “Red with the Reich”.

We pay attention again to these two “I/H”, which are the 23rd and 45th words of the text, and notice there is a big M from the word “Marco” at midway between the two.



This M points toward three letters: “a”, the “h” from “shrink” and “a” from can (purple underlinings).

This last “a” points towards the “n” next to it, and this “n” in turn points toward the “f” from the word “Phantom”. This “f” points toward the “th” from the word “with”, and this “th” points towards the “om” from “Phantom”. Finally, the “m” from the latter points toward the “e” from “rage”.

The “M”, the “n” and the “f” don’t count, because the M in this letter only serves to point at other letters but without being included itself in the final result. The “n” points toward the edge, meaning it has to be disregarded. The “f” points toward the I, which in turn points toward the edge, which means the “n” also has to be disregarded.

So we end up with: “a h a th om e”, which in my opinion means “Adolf Hitler at home”, in the sense of “The Axis is attacking you in the home front”.

Adolf Hitler had a 47 on his signature. New Mexico is the 47th state of the USA and the Roswell incident took place in 1947, two years after the end of the Second World War.

In the sixth word there is the word “suggest”which two “g” point toward the M from “Meanwhile”, and this M in turn point toward the “o” from the word “column”. So we have the word UMO.

UMO is an anagram of UFO. And the whole thing looks like the drawing of a rudimentary extraterrestrial, with those two “g” (green arrow) resembling two antennae with eyes at the end.

Apart from that, UMO is a reference to UMMO, an ufologic case that started in Madrid in the 1960s which is very popular in Spain and probably was the first case of this type in this country. Also, “UMMO” sounds like “humo”, a Spanish word meaning “smoke”, thus acknowledging all of this is a smokescreen.

It’s a very obvious anagram of HH, meaning Heil Hitler.

On the 9th row, we notice the last “y” from “anonymously” points towards three items: “l”, “E” and “the”, and this last one in turn points toward the “R” from the word “Red”. The two “the” before “Count” tell us that we have to take the whole “the” from the 10th row instead of just the “e”. This is confirmed by the fact that the first “y” of the word “anonymously” points towards this “the” situated before “Red”.

So we end up with “lether” which is an anagram of aether (also spelled ether), a mythical element very popular during the 19th century which was thought to fill all the space of the universe located between astronomical objects. With this the conspirators announced that the ufology is the ether of the post-1947 society.

The ether was also called the fifth element, so this would be a reference to the fifth phase of their main plan.

Marco is Spanish for mark.

Red Phantom is most probably a reference to the Red Baron, the famous German flying ace from the First World War.
