Last time I checked, neither the National Anthem not the US flag allow free speech. That would be the US Constitution, that happens to "allow" you to speak freely, protest and air grievances against the US Government without repercussions (from the government). Neither the National Anthem, the US Flag or the US Constitution protect you from violating you employment contract with a non-governmental business.

Personally, I don't find kneeling to be a disrespectful act at any time. If you really want to disrespect the flag, you burn it. And, if you really want to disrespect the National Anthem, you mimic Rosanne Bar.
