Shalou woke first, so she pumped the yam to store our day's worth of water.
Shalou woke me when she saw the glowing slash across the sky.
“I thought we had more time,” she said, holding her elbow and watching the sky.
“I’m not giving it up,” I said, “not now. Not after all we’ve been through.”
"They will come for you. My spirit. Your womb.
The demons will try to feed upon it,” she said, “that’s what they do.”
I always knew I’d had to use the braw bones. It sort of pisses me off, but that’s life.
