Hi Everybody. I am a new face round here.

I am using both my MacBook Pro and Safari and my PC with Firefox to load ATS. I have a fast fibre connection.

My MacBook with Safari is hardly loading ATS. It is unable to load and navigate the site within an acceptable time frame. In contrast my PC with Firefox is loading it with lightning speed. My MacBook is faster than my PC at everything.

Is Apple/Safari making your site hard to reach because of a browser issue or deliberately? Is it something to do with your site's coding or the server response to Safari even? If I use Firefox on my MacBook it loads with lightning speed as it should. It seems that the Safari browser is the culprit.

Just something I have noticed as a new visitor. Hope it is informative and helpful.

I would say the difference in device architecture .
How do all 3 compare with different websites other than ATS ?
What is the difference in CPU , memory , cache size , etc. ?
Level of drivers , firmware ?
Type of network adapters ?
A desktop PC is most likely going to be faster .
It is the nature of the beast .
This all sounds normal .

Welcome to ATS!

I haven't used a MAC in a long time. However, here is an old fix I had found for Safari hiccups. It worked back in 2018.

Force Quit Safari ( CMD + OPT + ESC). Then restart Safari press and hold the Shift key.

Turn off Safari extensions by going to --> Preferences --> Extensions --> remove checkmarks from each extension.

Also, try emptying the caches:
- Safari menu --> Clear History
Or
- Safari menu --> Preferences --> Advanced & check the “Show Develop Menu” in Menubar --> On that menu hit “Empty Caches”.

If all that doesn't work then I usually point the finger at the DNS config and settings. Here's a quick tutorial:

Since about 2 months ago i find different hick-ups with my Firefox and Tor connections when on ATS site. About the same time the image loading difficulty started.
I still get "serious error" when trying to log in. After a couple of F5's I can connect.
If ATS didn't change anything it must be the browsers, Maybe Biden spies He he

I dunno about anyone else, but to see if it was a browser issue, or PHP issue or HTML5 issue, i would download firefox for mac, try it on the MB pro and see if it loads equally as fast. If so, it's Safari.

Try different DNS settings, it worked for me.

My ISP seems to have a slow DNS when it comes to international stuff, so I use cloud flare 1.1.1.1 it speeds up my experience tenfold.

I tried it by changing it, surfing, noting it is faster and redo that several times, it is the DNS server for me. It may be different on the two different computers?

Though....

If it were DNS related, neither the Firefox on PC nor the Safari MB Pro would load quickly

It is NOT DNS related. Firefox...well, let's just say it is dirty, or at least it has been co-opted.

Does your Firefox open up with the Firefox homepage? If so, have you examined some of the 'stories' they post? I stopped using Firefox after the one story lauded the ways in which Romans tortured and killed people.

What folks on these shores view torture as a panacea?

I MUST read that article.... Man for some new ways to torture people... I would love a good read of that with my morning coffee..

On my Ipad, using Safari, ATS loads pretty slowly, and sometimes freezes up. On my PC using Edge, it loads right up easily with no hiccups. I should try loading ATS on Firefox on my Ipad. I have Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on my Ipad. I use Safari on my Ipad most of the time, because everything except ATS loads quickly, no issues. Just this site.

True, unless, one has set the network interface to a different DNS server and therefor the requests are not dealed by the router DNS service, that is probably setup to lookup the ISP internal DNS servers priority one.

That's my case, it looks like. ATS became lightning fast after I changed that to external DNS server. I am no expert but I do know the basics about networks and iptables.

Not sure about the ISP can like catch and override DNS requests though.

Add: Writing about it, it is not much different from what I did during a former job sometimes, where I learned the basics. Their 4G/ETH-WAN-LAN routers were providing a local dns that would route into VPN anyways via IPTABLE. So like, reverse of what I faced above. Not routing through "proprietary" but go through the WAN interface directly, not route into the tunnel interface.

Yea.

I guess i just assumed most people wouldn't go through the expense of having their own private DNS server along with the additional cost of a minimum T1 to redirect those canonical name requests.

I guess I just assumed you had on par or better knowledge than me, obviously I was wrong with that assumption.

1.1.1.1 is not a private DNS, as in, you run the infrastructure, it's cloudflare, go figure.

Just adding I have the same issue. ATS on PC and Android is fine, but on my Iphone12 it's almost impossible to use, with pages taking minutes to open. All other websites I use are fine, BBC, Reddit, etc etc.

Edit - Also it doesn't seem to be browser related, I get the slow ATS loading issue with Chrome and Safari on my Iphone.

I just tested it on my iPhone 13 pro max....same DNS provider, wireless 5g to my router. 212 mbps throughput on ookla and speakeasy, and it wont even load in any reasonable time. I think either apple products in general or IOS in specific is a problem with ATS ...

Just to show the broadband speed test on the iPhone:
