Take your pick, it's the basic communist MO. Bolsheviks in Russia, Maoists in China, Che Guevara in South America. They come in and find which ever group is stagnating or is mired in multi generational poverty and they tell them that the elite are keeping them down and controlling them. That there is one rule for the rich and another for the poor.

They spin some line that resonates with existing prejudices, such as claiming that the Jews run the world behind the scenes, or that it's the old Royalty, or the industrialists, or the globalists, or whatever, and before you know it, bing, bang, boom someone's up against a wall in front of a firing squad and you replace one despot with another.

When you're poor, and your parents were poor, and your grandparents were poor, and you're sitting there cold and hungry while some wealthy aristocrat sipping Champaign gets rich from taxing your farm or selling the goods that you make in a factory but which you can't afford to buy yourself, the idea of sweeping it all away sounds pretty good.

And I'm seeing this in both rural America from the Conservatives and urban America from the Liberals and it sounds like it's been taken directly from the writings of Marx.

Overthrow the elite, kick out the CEOS, run the means of production yourself, share the wealth among the laboring classes.

Burn down Amazon, bring back the Mom and Pop stores. Get ride of the ruling classes in Washington.

Marx preached it all.

Communism isn't a single monolithic entity, there are multiple types of communism.

At a basic level Communism doesn't espouse poverty, it espouses equal opportunity. If you become a billionaire through the fair application of your own labor, without exploiting the common man, then it's perfectly OK to be a billionaire.

Some forms of communism, most notably Maoism, had a rural base where the acquisition of wealth was frowned upon, but pure Marxism actually envisaged a society where everyone would become middle class, and then elevated together so that they had the trappings of wealth, but not at the cost of other people being kept down.
