Actually China belongs to Taiwan in the examples you listed, since Taiwan represents the Chinese government before the communist coup.

So were omitting territory?

If you can find a source showing russias desire for those regions to be independent nations or countries, ill concede.

So Russia is invading Ukraine because they want the regions to go back to Ukraine? Err what??

To answer your question ...

Russia recognizes independence of Ukraine separatist regions
The recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk as "independent" has been met with widespread condemnation from the West amid fears it could provide a pretext for a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

www.dw.com...

Although everyone knows how 'independent' they will be in reality.

According to putins demands, for independence as we already discussed.

I already willfully conceded this point to you and drew the western comparison.

I would expect a bigger commitment from the west to Ukraine first.

Just to clarify:

States should not be allowed to leave the United States.

Regions of Ukraine should allowed to leave Ukraine.

So, Taiwan should not be allowed to leave China? As I recall, China considers Taiwan to be a rogue province.

Not taking anyone's side, here, just wondering what the standards are. It would be interesting to see them applied to the Israel/Palestine quagmire.

ukraine and taiwan can leave russia and china respectively. texas left mexico. remember the alamo? american civil war failure? indian wars.

i don't think palistine would want to break away from Israel. who will take care of them?

it's not unusual for places to want to be independent or join other places but it seems war decides the outcome.

Good point!

But then, that opens up the whole Great Britain/United States can of worms.

Man, this international law stuff is confusing. No wonder everyone just resorts to Might Makes Right. It also explains why governments like to disarm their populations.

Well I think GB already conceded that point, but who knows what the future holds?

If you like peace Russia can withdraw any day. Hilarious how you talk about peace after you invade and start a war.

Why hasn't the US butted into other human rights abuses? Myanmar, Venezuela, South America? Do they not have enough resources to entice the 'mostly peaceful' western world members to help save these citizens?

True, and Russia keeps dangling baited hooks

This is a tactic from art of war.
