Huh???!!!
It did very well at the box office, it was Kubrick's last picture and his death gave it an immense amount of coverage + it still plays in many rerun cinemas and arthouses on a regular basis.
Heck, there are whole websites dedicated to it.
Even here in Phuket it's available in most video shops and this is hardly "Arthouse Central".
Dunno where you get you figures from, Anderson Consulting maybe?

Here, it bombed. I will post the numbers, it did not do well.

Kubrick was a strange man who made a lot of strange movies. He was definitely someone who knew too much. You could say his eyes were wide shut.

Actually it took US$22m in the first 3 days
BBC News | Entertainment | Eyes Wide Shut opens on top
and by most estimates took in roughly US$150m worldwide which is not bad for an R rated movie, in fact it's exceptional.

Add to that its popularity on DVD...heck why am I bothering?

Heh, I kind of think it would have been funny to see a bunch of "typical americans" who'd thought that "Days of Thunder" was the greatest film ever watching a film like EWS!

I must have read the opening weekend and thought it said week. Thanks for the update. The site I checked had its total gross at $55 million, but that was possible domestic, though I thought I specified worldwide in my query. I never did manage to see days of thunder, but I get your point. I know a lot of folks who think "Pulp Fiction", and "Natural Born Killers" are the two best films of all time, whereas they would not make my top 100 list.

Maybe I will try to watch EWS again, but it will likely be a while before I do, cuz it really did leave me flat.

Heh - just for a bit of conspiracy ad-lib here I notice that Blair Witch Project opened the same weekend.
Maybe this was a deliberate plot to distract the general public away from an intense psychological film that dealt with a secret society and get them talking about an amateurish Visual Arts Degree assignment (I'd give it a D-) with a 20 Million dollar advertising budget!

You have no idea how many of these type movies have been made by art students since Texas Chainsaw Massacre

I, too, think Kubrick was trying to blow the whistle on actual doings. In Hollywood, the knowledge is widespread. Did Madonna join a Kabbalah mystic sect for spiritual reasons, or is she, too, enamored of her cult sense of herself? I don't know, but what a stink that is.

The Gannon, Franklin Cover-up cases are opening this kind of story to wide public view. I didn't know zip about this, aside from reading a book about Manson and articles over the years about psycho parent cultists. Now, it looks as though there could easily be a pattern behind it all. That appears to be Kubrick's main theme. He purposely tried to make the flic plodding and sometimes vampy: one note on the piano, over and over again. Why? Because Kubrick saw them all as trashy, hence he wouldn't lend them sophisticated music, except to show their one big scene. Super-rich and high politicos in it.

For a taste of what cult sex slave torture really is, read this web site. Glance through the book at the bottom of the page. We should be on the watch for products of such doings. www.ritualabuse.net...

Kubrick on A Clockwork Orange An interview with Michel Ciment

In your films the State is worse than the criminals but the
scientists are worse than the State.

I wouldn't put it that way. Modern science seems to be very dangerous
because it has given us the power to destroy ourselves before we know
how to handle it. On the other hand, it is foolish to blame science
for its discoveries, and in any case, we cannot control science. Who
would do it, anyway? Politicians are certainly not qualified to make
the necessary technical decisions. Prior to the first atomic bomb
tests at Los Alamos, a small group of physicists working on the
project argued against the test because they thought there was a
possibility that the detonation of the bomb might cause a chain
reaction which would destroy the entire planet. But the majority of
the physicists disagreed with them and recommended that the test be
carried out.

Followers of Tesla realized too much UV activation of the atmosphere
might generate the hidden energy.

The push to explode came from the Illuminati developers who
wanted to see results.

However I heard the most simple atomic bomb hoax of all that
the "clockwork orange" refers to the orange colored bomb core
and a clock set off the bomb.
Well it had to be tied to a parachute or time would be a wasting.

Man that is a set back for Intel.
No film footage of that secret event but plenty of the aftermath.
I think I heard this story before.

Whoever seen testing of this type of bomb drop, well of any
type for that matter. Keep it simple.

More from the hoax: All three bombs were Uranium, the simplest.

But still think Germany was way ahead in A bomb production
and 24 subs had Truman in a tizzy.
Win the war but lose the East Coast.. hey it happen 9/11/01
in a small way.
Those Illuminati are pushy.
