So I just came across this video on Youtube from RealLifeLore. Never heard of this channel before but it has 5.5 million subscribers.

This video has racked up 13 million views in 1 week...and I can see why. It's pretty unique, maybe you will enjoy it.

It's 30 minutes long, but the gist of it is that one of the primary reasons for Russia invading Ukraine is economic - relating to underwater oil fields in the Black Sea and to a lesser degree gas fields on land. Thus an invasion to prevent Ukraine from becoming a competitor to Russia's dominant energy position in Europe is a given explanation.

Another aspect talks about the threat of Ukraine joining NATO as another reason - most here are probably familiar with that line of thought. But the video shows geographically how this relates historically as well.

2 main points reviewed:

- Geographic Security (The NATO thing)
- Economics of oil / gas

...and two more secondary reasons.

- Shortage of water in Crimea
- Russia's demographic crisis

...and if you accept this line of thinking about the economics.

Is it much different than US invading Iraq earlier? Of course the public reason was WMD / Saddam....

Do not forget the huge Neo Nazi presence in Ukraine --- the front line for the Khazarian Mafia------ with its stranglehold

over the US .

Plus their 11--13 bio labs on Russia's borders which allegedly are involved in Smallpox with upgrades ( other diseases

available ) --- all US in everything but name .

War has always been about the resources and spoils to be had dontneedaname.

You did not really think Putin went in to win the hearts and minds of the people?

Your calling the main reason with Ukraine joining NATO as it redefines borders and possibly allows NATO to place troops and missiles closer to Russia.

However in this day of age you simply cannot tell nations what to do in a similar manner to centuries past.

The reason for the existence of NATO is in defence against bully nations that try to occupy Europe.

Yes, completely different. Zelensky was elected and is probably the most loved and respected person in Ukraine right now.

well there was OPERATION BARBAROSSA in WW2....I learned about that recently.

A surprise attack is in Russia's emotional memory. German trickery. How much does that play a role in Russian thinking - consciously or subconsciously?

Jews still cry about the Holocaust - an 80 year old event. Rather they are conditioned by some to use it as a weapon to further other goals. Anti-defamation League anyone?

How many Chinese do you know cry about Japanese atrocities....yeah, not much.

How many ____ do you know cry about xxx event 100 years ago?

Many groups/cultures just forgive over time...some are might more spiteful / emotional.

After all...Japan was at war with the USA not long ago. Americans vs Germany, now we're buddies.

Vietnam more recent, but coldness has become more warm.

Some cultures are more forgiving.

Here is thing there dontneedaname and where the holocaust is concerned.

People that refuse to learn from history are apt to repeat the same historical transgressions.

Which is why it should never be forgotten.

As to "how many Chinese do you know cry about Japanese atrocities"?

Go find out what "Unit 731" was all about, im not Chinese so i cannot really comment, but im sure plenty of them are not very happy about the matter in the same to similar manner as the Nazi holocaust.

I've seen stuff about Japan & China. It doesn't matter if one is Chinese or ______. We make choices about forgiving and moving on.

Oh by the way, I am Chinese on the surface (I say surface, because underneath I'm not really anything - but that's another story). Born in USA though. But I've been to both countries and worked for Japanese companies too. I speak enough Chinese. There was an author IRIS CHANG who committed suicide about the NANJING MASSACRE many years ago.

Also the Holocaust (TM) isn't what it seems....I don't yet know the full story....but here's an intro. The 6 Million Jews in World War 1. 1,200 comments...you might find a video or two in there. Yes - WW ONE.

--

If you want to learn from history, you have to go MUCH FURTHER BACK in time. As wars have been going on for much longer....yeah. I've done that. I know the reasons, but that would be thread drift.

sort the table by revenue - Exxon is #1. BP not far behind.

Western oil firms remain as US exits Iraq
www.aljazeera.com...

Not defending Saddam, but let's be clear -- if there was ZERO OIL, Iraq War would have never happened. I mean, there are plenty of places where we could "bring democracy" but the US doesn't go there...no strategic reason why.

Don't kid yourself.

Western oil firms remain as US exits Iraq
www.aljazeera.com...

While the US military has formally ended its occupation of Iraq, some of the largest western oil companies, ExxonMobil, BP and Shell, remain.

Dr Zalloum added that he believes western oil companies have successfully acquired the lions’ share of Iraq’s oil, “but they gave a little piece of the cake for China and some of the other countries and companies to keep them silent”.

While US imports 50%+ oil from Canada now, it wasn't like that before. Nice graphic showing in early 2000s...OPEC countries / Persian Gulf was dominant.

Where US imports oil from over time
