< scratches head >

Uh.

This is not abnormal, they do it every year.

Sincerely,
Grew up in FL & think it's funny when folks think the nuke plant herds are odd, falling iguanas are new, and deadly trees are mystifying.

"scratches head"

Where did I say it was abnormal?

All I said was nature finds a way.

FWIW Ive traveled to Florida on business for over 30 years literally all over 2-3 times a year, have seen the iguanas and the tegus in particular on many many road trips. Love the drive over Alligator Alley from Lauderdale to Naples

and yes I know this is normal, but Ive never seen it on video, and so many crammed into a tiny canal.

That's cool - we've got the same kind of thing here with some green sea turtles.

When I got to Florida (1983) I'd never heard of a Manatee. A couple of us got a bass boat at the Air Station Marina and went fishing in the St. Johns. We had a good day, but, ran out of bait so we pulled into a small pier. While my friend went for bait I stayed with the boat. I saw what I thought was a piece of canvas in the water so I tried to snag it with a pole that was near by. I reached out with the pole, touched it and saw this snout come up out of the water. Scared the crap out of me. It was a Manatee.

I was about 12, we were vacationing in Marco Island. I was standing about waist deep in water fishing and there was a drop off about 15 feet deep right next to me. A couple of tarpon swam by, they were bigger than I wanted to catch and closer than I liked. While I was watching them nervously, a giant manatee swam up next to me to check me out. I had no idea what he was, only that he was massive and way too damn close to me. I gave Christ a run for his money and may well have walked on water. Now, knowing how gentle they are, it was an amazing experience I wish I would have enjoyed rather than feared, but then, fear can keep you alive, so I'm OK with it now.

Happened to me a few times swimming off docks and launches at various points across FL. Added some color to the water the first time it happened. Once I knew what they were, they're very friendly and like getting pats.

At the time I was there it was illegal to pet a Manatee. Once I knew what they were I only had one problem with them. We would do night jumps into the St. John's River and I was always a little afraid of landing on one.

Marco Island is so beautiful, one of the best weekends I ever had was in Naples/Marco and they had a Food, Beer, and Wine Festival. So many beers so many oysters, late October the weather was fantastic.

I don't know if I could live on Marco full time but I'd like to try some day.

The cooling fields for the reactor south of Miami in Homestead had become a breeding ground for crocodiles (not gators!) as well.

In other news, I've seen two green iguanas in our neck of the woods in the last couple weeks. Not thrilled about that. 🙃

If the "Climate Change Activists" were really concerned about "climate change" they would advocate for nuclear power. They're not.

Some do, or at least they accept it as superior to fossil fuels. OTOH the apparent costs of new nuclear, at least in Western countries which appears to have forgotten how to build them efficiently, is much higher than new renewables, and probably even so with batteries. I think that's a mistake but a new generation of modular nukes needs to be proven safe and economical before large scale deployment, which will take a long time. Maybe China will do it.

Climate Change scientists are in fact concerned about climate change for real.
