Not much more to say other then shelves are showing that people are stocking up for something. I don't think we have a supply chain shortage, but its unusual since not much is being said on the news .

I saw that in Europe at the start of the endless pandemic.

Seeing an empty crate with one rotting potato in it was a sight.

Cheers

I had to sneak to take them pictures. I think I took a few more, but need to find them on my computer. Yes, the important food was low or as you've seen empty. This is not doom and doom stuff, just the shelves are being empty and I have no info on why. Of course this is only one store, but other stores in town are low on stock too.

There is a distribution issue all over the world.
Compile that with online orders that don't align with general demand predictions....well this happens.
Give it a month or so and it should be much better......or freaking worse!

This is an example of how weak people have become.

I see tons of food on those shelves and your here whining.

Your grandfathers/great grandfather grew up in a time when grocery stores weren't even a thing. Oh how pampered we have become when seeing some empty shelves in 1 of 100's of grocery stores, stores full of food, can make us freak out like it's the worst thing that ever happened to us.

A lot of people are seeing shortages on their supply of 'convenience' foods. I have avoided pre-packaged for decades because of all the chemical additives and haven't noticed shortages of basic ingredients.

I still have my grandmother's cookbook from the depression, that even has recipes for when the basics aren't available.

I have cloth dishtowels; they're a great substitute for paper towels!
But I must admit, I will miss the Sears catalog if/when the toilet paper shortage becomes more pronounced.

We bought 2-3 dozen bandannas to use as napkins.
Much nicer than paper towels or napkins.
Some of them we've used for many years now.

We spent a week now with only buying five bucks worth of food. We can live for quite a while on our stock if needed, provided we keep the food rotated and we keep replenishing it. We will be going out tomorrow to buy some sale stuff at a few stores, need potatoes again, we are down to maybe ten pounds and they are on sale. Made twenty one pasties today, sent over twelve of those to the two kids houses, one granddaughters house, and my ex wife even got one this time.

So the pasties we made wound up costing twenty five bucks for twenty one pasties but we gave twelve away. I think that means that it cost us twenty five bucks for nine pasties...around two seventy a pasty for us. I should start making the kids buy the ingredients to make them, heck, I spent four hours total making those, not including baking time....the wife bakes them. And since it was my idea, I have to do all of the dishes and there are lots of pans and cooling racks to wash.

That's life, I tried the pasties my daughters made, even using my crust recipe....I think they will agree with me....we all would rather eat the pasties I make.
