Working on my taxes today. I use TurboTax…typically a simple process. As I am filling out info I am asked to enter info off IRS letter 6419.
Remember when Biden said he was going to mail money out to parents with dependent children throughout 2021???? They sent out the payments unless the
parents opted out. We had already received a payment from the IRS before I even heard about all of this. Evidently letter 6419 specifies exactly
how much each parent was paid. If there are 2 parents each parent should have received a letter. Neither of us got one and we both got payments
(we didn’t request them but we got them).
There is a flag warning you that if you don’t enter the exact amount that is on the letter when you file your taxes it will delay processing of your
taxes. I can access my account and confirm exactly how much I was paid…lord only knows what amount they specified in the 6419 letter.
Here is the super sketchy part. To get a copy of a 6419 letter from the IRS you have to use the ID.ME system to log in. This requires a copy of
your DL or passport, then you have to use a link which is sent to your cell phone to video scan your face, then you have to sign a consent that
permits ID.ME to give all of your information including your GROUP AFFILIATION to the IRS. What the heck? Evidently there are places where you can
identify yourself as being military, medical, alumni, etc…but the software doesn’t specify exactly what group affiliation information is being
shared (no limits are specified).
Um no…hard pass…I don’t know what group affiliation this software has designated me as having so I am certainly not consenting for it to be sent
to the IRS.
This is some next level Facebook / Apple type “consent” BS. They are essentially blackmailing us saying our tax returns will be held up if we
don’t use their system to verify the amount we enter is exactly the same amount as it on this “letter”.
