Working on my taxes today. I use TurboTax…typically a simple process. As I am filling out info I am asked to enter info off IRS letter 6419.

Remember when Biden said he was going to mail money out to parents with dependent children throughout 2021???? They sent out the payments unless the parents opted out. We had already received a payment from the IRS before I even heard about all of this. Evidently letter 6419 specifies exactly how much each parent was paid. If there are 2 parents each parent should have received a letter. Neither of us got one and we both got payments (we didn’t request them but we got them).

There is a flag warning you that if you don’t enter the exact amount that is on the letter when you file your taxes it will delay processing of your taxes. I can access my account and confirm exactly how much I was paid…lord only knows what amount they specified in the 6419 letter.

Here is the super sketchy part. To get a copy of a 6419 letter from the IRS you have to use the ID.ME system to log in. This requires a copy of your DL or passport, then you have to use a link which is sent to your cell phone to video scan your face, then you have to sign a consent that permits ID.ME to give all of your information including your GROUP AFFILIATION to the IRS. What the heck? Evidently there are places where you can identify yourself as being military, medical, alumni, etc…but the software doesn’t specify exactly what group affiliation information is being shared (no limits are specified).

Um no…hard pass…I don’t know what group affiliation this software has designated me as having so I am certainly not consenting for it to be sent to the IRS.

This is some next level Facebook / Apple type “consent” BS. They are essentially blackmailing us saying our tax returns will be held up if we don’t use their system to verify the amount we enter is exactly the same amount as it on this “letter”.

I RAN INTO THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM!

Do NOT under ANY circumstances create the ID.me profile! The IRS has issued a letter on Feb 7th tha they will not be using facial recognition technology! ID.me wants to store your biometric data and facial recognition on their servers. They store it for 7.5 years even if you ask to delete it.

Read the fine print!

I REPEAT! DO NOT CREATE YOUR PROFILE!
If you did, delete it.

Wait for the letter to be mailed.

Simple. It was exactly $1500 per kid if you received all six payments.

Of course you wouldn't mind.

Anyway.
Here is the link showing the IRS backtracking...
IRS website
And they only said this after privacy groups made waves.

I'm thankful that we still have people fighting for privacy in the US. It goes a long way and to think that this software probably alwready has millions of records from unsuspecting people just blows my mind.

Greatest-ever reason for declining to participate in anything having to do with taxation.

Time to go look for a boss who pays cash ... just the same thing Illegals get away with. Work for exactly what you're worth ... and walk away everyday with a fat stack and a smile on your face knowing you didn't get fleeced.

I heard about that.
But the letter we got was 6475.
Maybe that is the letter for people without children?

FWIW....what if you don't have a cell phone, not everyone does?????

This is why I think people should thing twice about using any facial recognition or zoom, even skype. Think twice about those handy, dandy telehealth calls as well.

I had to do the same thing to buy vaping products. It's a royal PITA to get that photo just right next to the DL. Took 4 tries and a mirror before it would work. And word to the wise, if you screw up one time, you're locked out unless you use a different IP address. Good luck.

You could just look at July through December 2021 bank statements to see what was deposited each month from the IRS, total it and divide by two.

6475 is the letter most people should get.

The designation varies by family members claims. The point is that we shouldn't have to wait for a letter from the IRS to finish our taxes this year.

I truly believe it was a ruse to get facial recognition started and gearing up to become the new way for digital identification. There is a nefarious plot behind all this, no doubt about it.

This is going to get thick.
