I've had my fair share of every type of keyboard, even some really high end ergonomic split ones.

I've been searching for something that I don't know if it exists.
Btw I can't believe the vast offerings of keyboards, but upon closer review, it's like 10 models of the same thing just with different aesthetics.

Here is what I'm looking for, Remember the IBM's in 1990?
Remember that keyboard? Equal part squish, equal part clack? I don't how else to put it. It somewhat felt spongy.
Now these newer keyboard are all clack and no squish, I want that squish back. I'm dead serious. There was a solidness to it.
I think they call it key resistance. Does it even exist anymore? The few i've read that have it really don't.
Everything feels cheap and clacky now.

You're looking for what's called a mechanical keyboard. Can be a bit pricey, but lasts far longer than membrane keyboards, plus you get the old school clack and resistance.

Yes, you definately want a mechanical keyboard.

Searching for the right one can be a bit of a rabbit hole though, there are different switch types with different "feels" to them.

They are much better than the cheap membrane ones that come standard with a pre-built computer nowadays though.

Just looked up the difference and I'm definitely using a mechanical keyboard and not a membrane one.
I wonder if I just haven't found one with the best resistance.

The higher priced ones you can change the resistance (stiffness) of the keys. They do, obviously, cost more, but you'll be able to fine tune it to what you are comfortable with. Good thing about mechanicals too is the parts are easier to replace.

You are speaking of the old buckling spring keyboard .
Sounded like a 30cal machine gun .
Don't exist anymore .
I have a Coolermaster Devastator 3 which comes a little close.

Man I loved that.

Buy one of the old IBM Mechanical Keyboards that you previously used then a ps/2 or 5 pin din to USB adapter.

Warning, they're surprisingly expensive and collectible. Most of them ended up in landfill.

IBM Model M Keyboard

They're called buckling spring keyboards, i did a quick amazon search and found this however it's out of stock, you could put on an alert:

If you had posted this a few months ago, I'd have sent you one for free just to get rid of it (needed some cleanup though). I personally prefer a good quality membrane keyboard because mechanical is too damn noisy.

A little humor :
I once had to order a warranty replacement .
The lady on the phone asked me to read the part number from the bottom of the keyboard.
I cant remember all , but the last was "0666"
The lady said , "ahhh , the keyboard from hell"
