I just thought of a reason someone could be so careless as to first raise such a child, then let it get out.
Perhaps despite the best efforts of doctors and nurses, or maybe midwives, rumors get out about a family having had an "unusual baby."
Perhaps the bigfoot's family then set out to inflict the ignominy on someone else so as to deflect the blame. Someone whose features will be
recognized in their community.
So they kidnap someone and have them have a kid with their unusual family member, then raise it and teach it to survive in the woods, then let it get
out.
When the family of the kidnap victim hears, they rush out to Bluff Creek and capture the offspring.
Since it is the hybrid of a sasquatch and a human, suppose it can talk? Then they'd probably try to make their family member comfortable.
Or, possibly, they'd destroy all evidence of its existence.
