I need a syringe!

I want to 'mainline' some chili...(JUST kidding). I don't want to 'mainline' anything, but I actually do need a syringe.

I don't know anything about syringes and needles (well, other than for cows, but those are huge).

I need a syringe to dispense some oil into ball bearings in some knives. A dropper is too much oil. I would like to be able to load a syringe up with something like 0-10w oil (maybe 0-20w), essentially sewing machine oil, and dispense it with a needle into some ball bearing races. I'm not looking for just a syringe without the needle, but a syringe with the needle to be very precise. My question is this...

What size needle do I need to dispense oil as described above? And, what size syringe should I use for this?

Again, this is predominantly for actions on folding knives.

(also, I don't want to buy like 50 syringes, I only need one or two)

Thanks in advance for any assistance. (I don't know jack about needles).

You probably want a size 18. I usually get mine from the local veterinarian.

I have oiled bearings in a folder and the action is not better. It has catched dirt and it feels like sand.
IMO bearings need no oil. I think I will need to take it apart. There should be grease sealed in it. You can make bearings run like crazy by removing the grease but then it doesnt last.
IMO save the syringe - chilli combo for constipation.

I would try this kit first, it has different sized needles so you try different combination until you find what works best.

Rollerblade bearing oil with needles works excellente, but don't get oil on the contact point of a liner lock blade.
Syringes suck for that application. Drips aren't really in their vocab.

If your local pharmacy isn't crazy busy you can typically ask them for a syringe with a needle (where I am). I get a few each year to marinate turkeys. Not sure what size you would need, but depending on your pharmacists they could help.

Just go to a pharmacy and ask for one, I had no problem getting just two. I think they have them on hand for diabetics.

A set of syringes ranging from 14 to 25 gauge.
Ten of them for 9 bucks.

I may be wrong but, they are probably measured like wire gage, I think. The higher the gage, the smaller the needle.

I suspect you could also find what you need at your local druggist. Needles used for diabetic applications are probably what you require.

Do you have a local needle exchange? If so, go get a few you pay for, from them.

Homemade vaccines are as old as this water tastes like um well water... got anything else?

You probably don't want actual hypodermic (i.e., pointed) needles just because of the safety issues. You can get syringes and blunt dispensing needles direct from McMaster Carr, for example, as well as from Amazon. Search under "Stainless Steel Dispensing Needles with Luer Lock Connection".

You know, of all the knives I own, I don't own a Spyderco. In that price bracket I normally opt for a Benchmade. Don't have anything against Spyderco knives really, just don't own one. Have several Benchmade knives. Spyderco guys sure are a loyal bunch though, that's for dang sure!! They get all defensive about their Spyderco's. It's almost like the 9mm vs. .45acp debate! Or, the Ford, Dodge, Chevy debate.

In fact, the reason I'm looking for the syringe is to see if I can loosen up a Benchmade knife which has gotten gunked up somehow. It used to operate as smooth as a baby's bottom and fast as a lightning bolt, but now it's acting like it took a serious sand-bath. It's odd too, because I've got another Benchmade, same model but different blade profile and steel, which is much older and has been through way more torture and grime, and it still works great. I can't figure out why the newer one has gotten so crappy. I'm going to take the whole thing down to parts, thoroughly clean everything with Hoppes #9, put some silicone grease in the bearing races (along with a touch of gun oil) and see if that fixes it. I thought about maybe trying some dri-lube and/or graphite, but I'm on the fence about that.

As far as the heaviest duty folder I own, that title would have to go (by FAR) to this Schrade tanto I have. I swear, that thing is built like an absolute TANK, and it weighs as much as a tank too!! Good grief, If you ever clocked someone upside the head with this thing it would leave a hell of a mark! Don't even have to open it! I'm not sure what the weight is, but I swear that thing weighs more than a brick! Lesson learned about ordering stuff online without being able to hold it in your hand. When it showed up in the mail I thought they must have mistakenly included (3) additional knives! LOL! That thing is a beast!

It's not crazy. You have a legitimate need for it. Just go where they have needles and explain what you need it for. Maybe take your knife to show them. You never know, you may end up with a better suggestion.

Around here (in CO) I'd probably have a better chance dressing up like a strung-out vagrant and trying to get one. Law abiding citizens with legitimate needs only get interrogated and then crapped on here. If you're a homeless filthy dope-head you get carte blanche.

blunt and plastic needle kit

This might do it for you. it has blunt metal and plastic needles. Although, the one posted above may be better because it has two different sizes.

ATTENTION - Not for medical injection, industrial use only!
