FIrst one that comes to mind is THE ARRIVAL

WHY is this unrealistic?

Because THEY would never show themselves like this...so obviously. At least not now.

That's not how they operate...they prefer to remain in the shadows, so to speak, and let others come to them.

Triggering curiosity. They may engage certain individuals or small groups or momentary appearances to a broader base (Phoenix Lights, etc...), but nothing like a mass appearance as we have in THE ARRIVAL. They prefer mystery, which invites curiosity.

On that note - Close Encounters is also complete FAKEtion

I believe they're already here, I wish they would return to their home planet.

There most likely isn't a need to explain why this movie is unrealistic, however as of late, I'm beginning to view this movie as a soft disclosure.

Independence Day both of them. Alien. Predator. War of the worlds - both of them. The tomorrow war. Quiet place - both of them, bird box, Mars attacks, Signs……and the list goes on.

RE "That's not how they operate".

I'm sounding a little douchbaggy as hey it's Monday, but how the frigg do you know what/how they would reveal themselves, and operate?

Also, wait, whaaaat, your saying Close Encounters is fake? geettt outaaa here, no way!

Starship Invasions which is Canada's pitiful answer to Star Wars starring a very bored Robert Vaughn and a very embarrassed Christopher Lee. Cinematic masochists swear by it! One of the worst the genre has to offer

According to Spielberg he did base parts of the film on reported UFO events.

First off, who's to say that all UFO's ET"s come from the same place or behave the same way. Some might be, timid and fearful, sneaky and deceptive ,or forthcoming and honest. Then the most likely way just as Hawkins said they may just come and kick our ass after they find out how weak our technology compared to their's is.

One day, we might receive a signal from a planet like this," Hawking said, referring to the potentially habitable alien planet Gliese 832c. "But we should be wary of answering back. Meeting an advanced civilization could be like Native Americans encountering Columbus. That didn't turn out so well,

Steven Hawking

The original film THE ARRIVAL (1996), the 2016 film was just titled Arrival, is a example of sneaky and deceptive, and could be what global warming is all about.

With all fairness dontneedaname Spielberg actually had Close En#ers pretty much spot on

When you see those amber orange type UFO Orbs in his film, that is absolutely 100% accurate during a CE and that is coming from the horses mouth having experienced very similar

Also the communication with the motherships................... This can be achieved using light signals to and from the UFO. Very similar to Steven's back and forth musical communication

Close Encounters is absolutely the most amazing reflection of a real time Close Encounter

If nothing else, this movie had one of the most unrealistic fight scenes ever in the 'put the glasses on' scene.

How do you know what is authentic or not?

Theoretically, there could be hundreds of alien species here already and every one of them could be hiding in plain sight.

It doesn't mean there aren't some extravagant alien species that's gonna come down the pike, tooting their horn and saying look at me.

Personally Im thinking it's gonna be like how foreign some ocean life seems to be. Octopi and Dolphins operate with such basic life forms as jellyfishes and amoebas.

Technically they may all be "unrealistic" until we have factual evidence for comparison.

I liked the Arrival all the same, the way the aliens experienced time differently and problems with communication of data and ideas down to our differences.

Good interview here mate with Speilberg discussing Dr Hynek's work.

This peer reviewed article also brings up some relevant info on Spielberg's film(s).

History of Government Management of UFO Perceptions through Film and Television'

This is one of only a small handful of articles dealing with UFOs and entertainment-media-control ever to have been published in a peer-reviewed academic journal, and is all the more unusual in that it treats UFOs not as a mere cultural abstraction, but as a real, physical phenomenon of considerable concern to officialdom..

Thinking of many, but a popular choice (and I'm sure many people have heard this misgiving about it before) is Signs: why invade a planet that's 70 percent water, when your species is allergic to water?

Although I suppose one could say the same about War of the Worlds and our bacteria, or conversely even our prospective plans to go to planets like Mars, that seem completely hostile environments to our species (at least without some form of "terraforming").

But I mean we kind of know that, and we're not going to just rock up there with colonial-style forces without first addressing this.
Unlike the aliens in Signs.

A very bad movie all around. They tried to be imaginative with those weird forms as aliens but it was too grotesque and weird even for alien movies.

What made me worry about E.T. is whether the telepathic link between the alien and Elliott is indeed broken by time and space.

I mean, we have a scene where ET stays home and drinks beer, whilst Elliot gets drunk in school.
Is this link clearly ever broken?

This makes me fear for ET when Elliott goes to his first Grateful Dead concert, because it's quite likely ET will get left behind on another planet, because he's so goofed he missed the take-off curfew (again).

(P.S. I think there was a sequel in the pipeline once that might even have addressed these plot/thematic issues, but nothing ever came to fruition.)
