Volcanoes are basically like sticking something ten times the size of a nuclear bomb about one-third from the top of the mountain, directly inside.
Whatever it does not vaporize it turns instantly into a hot ash, basically from half to one third of the mountain is thrown into the atmosphere.
Nuclear weapons detonate above the surface. Mostly, they change the temperature and create some clouds. However the dust would not be enough to start
a nuclear winter, especially globally.
On another note if you are outside the radius of the blast and are not incinerated, as long as you stay inside a concrete structure for about 24 to 72
hours most of the radiation is gone.
Now if you're talking about a radioactive Cobalt bomb (dirty) that kind of radiation can not only kill you but the dust can be transferred to other
people and kill them as. (check out people salvaging x-ray machines oh, and getting into the Cobalt)
Although disgusting awful and thorough destruction and pain he would bring, it's not as bad as you would think. Unless you're living near a power
plant, Major infrastructure (think Grand coulee dam / Golden gate bridge) or an air base.
The kill radius of these bombs is a lot smaller than most people think.
