My vision was blurry at first, but I could still tell that it was unusually dark, even for this time in winter here. These new "seasons" in New York
were confusing me - there was winter when it was cold, something I'd never experienced before, and there was summer when it was hot. To make it more
confusing, in winter the days were short and in summer the days were long. To top that off, the clocks went back every winter and forward again in
summer. Something I'd learnt very recently.
I opened my eyes fully and my vision became clear. It was the same old room I'd been in for days and days and days. I closed my eyes and wished
myself back home, the hot, humid climate and lofty, green trees becoming so vivid in my mind's eye that I was expecting to be back in my home country
when I opened my eyes. But I was still in the room.
I decided to walk over to the window, which was a see-through part of the wall. Nothing was the same outside! The single tree outside had been
changing a lot recently, going from lush and green to fiery red with leaves fluttering off. Maybe it was dying? Now it looked completely dead, with no
leaves at all and heaps and heaps of white stuff on it. And the white stuff was everywhere. More white stuff was coming out of the sky. Just then,
someone burst out of the door screaming "It's snowing! It's snowing!" They were quickly followed by a few more, and then they started lying in the
white stuff waving their arms up and down. One of them was making balls out of the white stuff. How I wished I could go outside.
I fluffed my feathers miserably. My name is Bubbles, I am a blue and gold macaw, I was taken to New York in the summer of 2021 and I wish I was back
home.
