TTS2022 - Winter is Here - Non-writer

"Sarah! Sarah! Guess what day it is!" my brother Zack yelled, running wild down the hallway.

I groaned as I dragged myself out of bed. "It's the weekend Zack...I'm taking this chance to sleep in. It's really tiring working as a waitress and going to uni, you know..."

"But guess what day it is." Zack looked up at me with pleasing, adorable nine-year-old eyes.

"Fine...Saturday."

"No!" he squealed. "It's the first of December! Which means it's winter!"

I groaned again. Winter - the worst season ever. "What's amazing about that?" I replied. "Winter is the worst."

"No it isn't!" Zack protested. "It's the best!"

"Okay Zack. If you can give me ten reasons why winter is the best season in the year, I will tell you it is the best and you are too." No chance he'll be able to do that. "If you can't, then you have to wash the dishes."

Zack looked doubtful for a minute. Then he said, "Deal."

"Good." I stretched and dragged myself out of bed to make a cup of coffee. "You do that, then."

I went downstairs and started making myself a vanilla latte. I'd just finished adding milk and sugar when Zack came crashing down the stairs.

"Zack! Some people are having lie-ins, you know."

Zack ignored me. "I finished the list!"

"WHAT!? Already?" I grabbed the piece of paper he was waving around, almost tearing it. Written down the side were the numbers 1 to 10 in not exactly the neatest writing, but still legible.

1. Coffee shops start selling gingerbread coffees and that smells nice even if you don't drink coffee.
2. It starts snowing and you can sledge down hills.
3. It's Christmas season and you get presents from Santa.
4. It's also New Year season and you get fireworks, parties and countdowns to midnight.
5. You can eat more beef stew and chicken soup because it isn't so warm anymore.
6. You can sit by the fire and drink hot chocolate.
7. January is the beginning of a brand new year, and that sounds so cool.
8. You can have a competition to see who can catch the most snowflakes.
9. You can make snow angels and get soaking wet.
10. You can build snowmen and try to make them look like your friends.

"See?" Zack grinned triumphantly.

"Fine. Winter is the best season ever, and you, Zachary James Rourke, are too."

Zack has a point... well actually he has 10...

My son is making gingerbread cookies after school today. Can't wait to try one when I pick him up!

Wait...what? Did I say I was worried? Or did I say something that suggested I was worried?

Oh wait, did you mean my post saying I couldn't enter if the contest was Christmas themed? I relaxed a bit when DTOM said it doesn't have to be about Christmas.

Oh, by the way there's a typo but I can't edit it since I only noticed it now...

Lol!!!! 😂😂😂 I don't think Zack would have thought of that though, being an nine year old.

One of the worst things about summer is that you get bugs coming in all the time, and the fact that you've got a window or two open to let in a breeze doesn't make it any better...

The heat also makes food spoil quickly. Another factor increasing likelihood of bugs.
