Who is afraid of a terrorist strike in the States? Elsewhere?

There are drug laws in Flroida that have been in place since the 80's that have taken away my 4th amendmant rights with the War on Drugs campaign, so this is not an issue with me. I do not want to lose any of my rights, but Igrew up knowing at amy time the police could enter with probabla cause of suspected 'drug use'. I saw a kid in high school lose his fatehrs Acura NSX, because there was coke residue in his wallet on his licnese from when he was cutting lines a few hours earlier. Mind you this is not his car, there were NO drugs on thier person, but he was arreseted for felony possession (no misdemeanors with coke in FL) and lost his fathers 45,000 car.

I have gone through the justice system , and I know how a young blood DA can be. They care nothing about there case stats W/L. But if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about. I was in a situation where I did nothing, and with threats I pleaded out. It sucked. There is nothing worse than bieng innocent and held because a jury of your peers thought you were guilty because you had a PD not a high profile lawyer. That is where injustice is present.

I do not know why I must defend myself because I do not think the Patriot Act is the boogeyman you protray it to be. I believe it is a way to stop terror in our country. It is sad that some people are more afraid of your own government than another terror attack.

These demogogues have made Muslims the target of US ignorance and hatred. Forget the fact that 9-11 was most assuredly an inside job. With 9-11 as a pretext, the Iraq war is its extension.

Am I afraid of a terrorist attack on US soil? No. But I am concerned that if we the people start putting 2+2 together on these crimes and start demanding accountability, the powers that be WILL see to it that some other patsie or cut-out WILL unleash another "terrorist" attack. Gotta keep the people scared to keep their eyes shut.

The idea of being afraid of some CIA patsie hiding in a cave, hooked to a dialysis machine on the other side of the world is laughable.....They know exactly what his status is and where he is, if in fact, he's even still alive.

I FEAR the loss of freedoms 9-11 ushered in. A quick glimpse beneath the surface reveals extensive curtailment of our civil liberties under the-ironically named Patriot Act.

I don't know what to say, except that ECK has put it about as clear as day.

I myself, although without knowing for sure, of course, wouldn't be surprised if OBG isn't either nice and cozy somewhere on the premises of the White House, or if he does have severe kidney problems (where did we hear that? in the mainstream media?), it's quite possible that he is nestled somewhere in a private hospital, with plenty of Secret Service Agents watching over his safety, 24/7 given the close relationship the Bush's and the Bin Lauden's have reportedly (and not only by the mainstream media) had over a long period of time.

Every guilty party has to have a scapegoat. And when 9-11 happened, who screamed first and loudest, "It was him! It was Osama Bin Laudin, the Mastermind behind it all!"

Big Brother DID watch you at all times... sounds like the Patriot Act to me.

How do you think a large, democratic country could be converted to some kind of dictatorship? Do you think it would be a hostile take over involving the military (would the military go for that?) or do you think the government would slowly but surely revoke all of your rights, all the while telling you that it's for your own good.

The Patriot Act isn't TERRIBLE, not considering what people in other countries have had to go through, but the Patriot Act COULD be a frightening precursor to what is to come.

Ok Horsey, that's a valid opinion but why? On the one side of the argument, I want to ask you why you feel that terrorists haven't slipped in through the Mexican border? On the other side, I think we'd like to know if you think the whole terrorist issue has been blown way out of proportion.

Esdad, you make a good argument but I'm afraid that we're just going to disagree about this. You and I are like apple and oranges (you get to be oranges). I'm from super liberal southern California near Venice. On the boardwalk, every other store is a head shop. I come from a place where, if a police officer found marijuana on you, you'd have an equal chance of getting a ticket as you would just getting your weed back. I don't think those kinds of laws would be tolerated in L.A. county, nor do I think there is enough room in all U.S. prisons combined to hold all of the Californian drug users. Remember, if it wasn't illegal then crime organizations wouldn't have much funding.

What do you love about America that you couldn't love about any other country?
