Sometimes I rant and rave to my ATS family, just to get it off my chest and this is one of those times.

About a week ago, my daughter moved back in. She was in a toxic relationship and I saw it going down hill for the last couple of years and it frustrated the living Hell out of me that she didn't see it. We bought them a car last year and my daughter still had to walk almost a mile to work because her lazy ass girlfriend couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to take her. For years we've been buying them groceries, helping with rent, because her girlfriend was just lazy and couldn't hold a job.
The car is in my wife's name because I was at work when she bought it and it's nothing special. A 2015 Chevy Spark. We got it cheap , it was only $5000 and less than 60,000 miles and in very good condition. Nice little run around town car, good on mileage and all that, but her girlfriend treated it like it was hers'.
My daughter has a fear of driving, so depended on her to get back and forth or pretty much anywhere she needed to go. When she went to get my daughter....

Ok full disclosure, she took my son with her and I was told NO ! YOU ARE NOT GOING !.
You hurt my family and you're going to the hospital and I'm going to jail. My wife knows this and that's why she wouldn't let me go. I'm not a badass and don't pretend to be, but you don't mess with my family.

Anyway....

They go and get my daughter and when my wife says "Give me the keys to the car" her girlfriend has a breakdown and starts whining "They're taking my car !!!"
My wife says" That's MY car bitch ". I was told this by both my son and daughter. She makes me proud. She's a stand up lady that don't take no sh**

I worried about my daughter because she was losing so much weight from being stressed all the time. She wasn't eating meals, just snacked on little things like a bag of chips, while her girlfriend packed on 50 lbs.
She's home now and eating Dad's cooking and looking better.

I tried folks. I tried to get her to see what was going on, but every time I said something, I was interfering. I "just didn't understand "

Well, the day she moved back she told me "Dad....you were right and I'm sorry"

I told her "That's ok sweetheart, you're home. Safe and sound.

Good job Dad and can I just say that I adore your wife- she sounds like my 14 year old daughter who can put someone in their place with a short sentence too.

I guess the girlfriend thought she was going to get to keep the car. Good thing your wife is no sissy. half of the wives I know would just let the girl keep the car just to avoid conflict, some people prey on people's niceness to get what they want. How did your daughter get involved with someone like her, It used to be called the bad boy syndrome years ago, but now with the new types of relationships, you cannot call the person a bad boy anymore. Lots of women, and lots of guys too are attracted to people who have wild bad behavior, I never could understand why that chasing after naughty was prefered by the young people. It is a common attraction and lots of people get caught up in it, and most times it turns out bad someday.

Glad everything is good. Hope she moves on with her life and remembers the lessons life is always trying to teach us. Young ones forget that we were young once and old ones forget they were young once also. Keep being you, the good dad.

I'd have reported the car stolen.

Would be nice if kids would heed parental advice.

Speaking as a child and as a father lol.

Youth is wasted on the young!

Hi David64 - I think you should have a police report filed showing the car as recovered - just in case the girlfriend files a stolen car report. List the girlfriends complete name, address, license number (if possible) and any other pertinent information that will support the girlfriends identity especially pictures.

If she does file a stolen vehicle report, you are covered. Keep the police report, reporting officer's name and report number in the vehicle in case another authority elsewhere stops the vehicle for being stolen. Sometimes getting reports off NCIC reporting system can be a B***h...

You (your wife) did the correct thing - recovering your daughter and vehicle, Good Luck, man!

A few driving lessons wouldn’t hurt either, just gonna say. Especially now that she’s back at home.

The confidence to jump behind the wheel on her own would give her a whole lot of independence.
