Republican Kari Lake’s lawyers were sanctioned $2,000 Thursday by the Arizona Supreme Court in their unsuccessful challenge of her defeat in the governor’s race last year to Democrat Katie Hobbs.
In an order, the state’s highest court said Lake’s attorney made “false factual statements” that more than 35,000 ballots had been improperly added to the total ballot count. They have 10 days to submit the payment to the court clerk.
The court, however, refused to order Lake to pay attorney fees to cover the costs of defending Hobbs and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, also a Democrat, in Lake’s appeal.

Fact check: false. Missing context. AZ Supreme Court denied sanctions for the petition noting @KariLake won on key issue. AZ Supreme Court denied sanctions for attorneys fees. AZ Supreme Court required small $2K court fee over use of word "undisputed" in 1 sentence. Very minor.

This is not a parody.
"Just the other day, a worker came to his home to fix a leaky pipe and wore a red “Make America Great Again” hat. Gates felt anger swelling in his chest. “It was a trigger to see that hat in my house,” he said
"IT IS ORDERED setting a Status Conference on May 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. (30 minutes allotted) before Judge Peter A. Thompson. The parties and counsel may attend either in person or via Teams,” states the new minute entry.
...the Arizona Supreme Court finalized its proceedings, confirming a previous order for the trial court and issuing bogus, meaningless sanctions for Lake’s attorneys over their factual claims. Attorneys for Lake then filed a Motion for Status Conference to expedite the Maricopa County Superior Court’s review.

with everything going on politically for the past few years or so I'm leaning more and more towards thinking we need to switch to thei ancient athenian style of voting, or random sample voting, where you choose randomly from all candidates, without knowing who you voted for. no one party would be able to dominate one region and campaigning would be pointless, gerrymandering would also not work anymore or lobbying or many other standard undemocratic activities.
In short, the Arizona Supreme Court has FORCED the lower courts to go back and deal with this issue once again and it seems that the Supreme Court was angry the lower courts kept playing around.

Judge Thompson tentatively scheduled a three-day trial next week beginning on May 17. The trial will occur on May 17th, 18th, and 19th.
Counsel will be required to disclose who will testify, what opinions they will state, and what basis they have prior to trial. Judge Thompson indicated that the new evidence could be introduced, and other counts in the lawsuit may be reconsidered. Motions for Reconsideration, Responses, and Replies are expected in the coming days. Kari Lake attorneys are also expected to file a motion to consolidate the issue of lawful public records requests that the County has denied tomorrow.
Kari Lake attorney Kurt Olsen today made a bombshell claim while asking for the reconsideration of counts relating to machine failures on election day, stating that “Maricopa officials conducted secret testing on the tabulators on October 14th, 17th, and 18th” after the County’s Logic and Accuracy tests. Olsen further stated that “260 of those 446 tabulators failed” but were “then used in the election.”

A Maricopa County judge on Monday scheduled oral arguments for Friday about whether or not to hold a trial on a claim made in GOP candidate Kari Lake’s lawsuit that contests the 2022 midterm election results.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson on Monday directed attorneys for both parties to file arguments this week to debate in court on Friday, May 12.
In March, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that Lake, a former broadcast journalist for a Fox affiliate station, should receive new consideration on one of several election-related claims. The legal claim that was allowed to proceed alleged that Maricopa County erred in its signature verification process during the November election.
Thompson ruled that the arguments by Katie Hobbs and Maricopa County to dismiss Count III regarding fraudulent signature verification failed and were “not persuasive.”
However, Thompson dismissed Count II regarding intentional election day tabulator failures, despite newly discovered evidence that Maricopa County rigged the election and secretly tested voting machines to fail Republican voters. The new findings show “clear misconduct and intent,” argue Lake’s attorneys.
