"Oh my God, it's raining cats and dogs!" Mum muttered as the car thundered down the road. "All the clothes on the washing line are being
soaked."
It was early evening. We'd only popped out to Lidl for a few things, and then suddenly a downpour was starting.
"I guess the weather forecast was wrong again," I sighed. "Maybe next time we shouldn't line dry the clothes. Especially as it's autumn."
Mum took a right turn into our street. "Now, we all know what to do. Grace, you go and gather the clothes on the line. Max, get the shopping. And
Rose, no tantrums. Understood? "
We all nodded.
As soon as the car was parked in front of the house, I rushed to the front door. From there, it was a sprint down the hallway, a dash through the
kitchen and then I was through the back door and in the backyard. Pulling up my hood, I started fumbling with the clothes pegs and yanking assorted
garments into my arms.
The rain started to die down a little. In fact, I could actually see the sun in a patch of blue sky. I turned around to take down some more clothes
and gasped.
As mentioned, it was early evening, so not only was the entire sky a pale gold, there was also a dazzling rainbow spreading right across the sky, the
most vibrant I'd ever seen.
I smiled to myself. The rush to blow-dry my uniform the next morning had been worth seeing that beautiful arc of colours.
