I agree.

Her complaint is that Facebook doesn't sensor enough and she wants the govt. to step in and enforce more stringent sensoring.

My guess is we'll find out she has ties to some leftist PAC.

That is what it looks like, but it could just be as simple as Facebook has put her up to it in order to promote some kind of legislation that allows government to clamp down on the little guys. More centralization of social media power in FBIBook. Whistleblowers get injunctions/gag orders and they get the sh!t beat out of them financially. I don't see that happening here.

Cheers - Dave

It’s not just FB, it’s a ton of sites. I’m surprised ATS is still up.

This is only the beginning.

the best thing that could happen to everyone is for all social media to stop existing. next would be to make your phone only a phone. If you doubt me, ask someone who lived in the 80s.

NO it is not. As I said above...millions of people communicate this way and share information. They want us to stop communicating and sharing information.

Yes, people use these platforms for nefarious reasons. But most of us dont.

I think it matters because hundreds of thousands of people use these platforms to communicate. If they are controlled by TPTB and go down - hundreds of thousands of people cannot communicate and share information.

Yes, I remember the days before even the Internet existed. There was no news. No one ever heard about the assassination of JFK, or the Korean War, or anything like that. Heck, we didn't even know who the President was!

I am not even discounting what you said.
But when the government wants us to stop sharing info....I know we need to do the opposite.

For example, the parent groups I am in, we share valuable info on the critical race theory that is being pushed in our schools. We share stories in the various schools about abuse from staff over masks.....about vax info, etc etc.....We need a platform to share this info. And FB is all we have, unfortunately.

The school/parent groups is just one factor. While ATS provides a wealth of info....it doesnt work on a small time scale such as local issues.

I know you get where I am coming from

I'll keep the map features. I dreaded carrying booklets of maps for work. Pictures also good for getting parts or documentation on projects or asking other techs questions. Looking up schematics and the like for work is much faster.

I will add.....Most of us dont watch MSM anymore. Twitter provides way more accurate news than anywhere else. Citizen journalists post their stuff there and on FB.
These platforms are as useful as AboveTopSecret. Sadly, they are run by vile leftists with agendas. But we have little other options.
Not everyone is on these platforms posting selfies, recipes and cat videos. LOL

I find it a bit humorous that something like this happens about every six months, and the response is always so apocalyptic (in its various meanings..).

Of course, it could still always be the prelude to something bigger and it certainly will not be pleasant for those who are literally addicted to the platforms.. But its amazing how quickly folks forget.

That said, it certainly is interesting timing with regards to the apparent whistleblower on 60 minutes. But as far as I can tell, the whistleblower didnt bring any new information to light either, so.. meh.

If its nice outside, maybe sit in the beautiful sun for a while? Listen to the birds sing and leaves rustle in the breeze?

I'm old enough to remember when Psaki said the Biden regime' was working with Facebook to censor truth and conservatives.

Facebook experiencing Karma is the best news, like Projectvxn said, I too hope this lasts for good, no more facebook would be an awesome start to the pendulum swinging back.

Facebook is still down through comcast. It just partially works through Verizon. It may be just what is in memory

Just checked my phone and computer, it's still down for both. I know it'll be back up at some point, but I think it's hilarious seeing it go down.

Haven't been on there since 2017, my quality of life and mood improved within days of stopping the platform. I never did get into other social media platforms with the exception of LinkedIn which I only use for recruiters to contact me and to see about job postings. Other than that, ATS is my social media.

I'm on a 5th Gen Ram group, a sports group that I help moderate, and I use messenger for family and group chats. I never use it other than those three things.

Ring ring..........heavy breathing, ha ha ha, click!
And they will never know who did it!

AND........ they will laugh, or get annoyed and MOVE on with their life!
That is how it should be!!

" No one should have power over the conversations we want to have with other free citizens."

If we were paying for Facebook, I'd say that you are right, but, we are NOT paying for it. It's their site, they have the right to do as they please with it. If you don't like it, you are free not to go there.

we pay for it with our data, our usage logs, our clicks. But you are correct that the medium we use is not something we can attach a price to, we are dumb enough to give it away for pretty pictures.

I'd like to return to the days of the phones being connected via wires.
I lived in the 60's and 70's in addition to the 80's.

I hope this DDOS attack is not just a spontaneous epic prank to give our technocratic overlords a mild headache for a day or two, but a digital blockade to prevent admin interference while retooling the infrastructure of social media.

AKA the cyber vigilantes behind this endeavor aren't trying to steal money or data, but rather jailbreak the software and by extension cripple their control over information technology.

I've seen a few articles that said it was caused by a major power outage.

They better hurry up and working again. I haven't posted my dog pics for the day.

I'm a highly trained IT Tech with a heavy background in security.

Power failure is a blatant lie. Someone pwned major parts of our infrastructure. The DNS servers, and Facebooks servers are distributed and redundant. A single power failure cannot do this.

You've been lucky if you've worked in IT for so long and never witnessed someone fat finger their way into a disaster.

Facebook pushed out a bad infra config. It happens.

Yeah I'm sure that's all it is. Some fat fingering that so far has them shut down for several hours and counting.

you win the award for buying what's being sold the fastest. I'm not sure there is a trophy, but if you really want one, you let me know, and I'll see what I can do.

Take your crack away for a few hours then bring some back at a higher price, you'll pay any price to get that high back.

I wish we would all take a few weeks off social media and get back to face to face communication, and if you want to talk to some one too far to drive to, call them and talk. Like we used to do, and be just fine.

Those who didn't grow up during that time just don't know how amazing it was to not have the distractions we do today.
It's almost impossible to articulate how amazing it was. I wish it could be shared with everyone. Just so we would all have an understanding of how life used to work. We aren't better off now, we are much less connected. Ironically, from a network person's perspective, we are also more connected then we have ever been. (digitally)

Yes the days of calling a random person, and asking if their refrigerator was running. Good times.
