The fact that this man is in jail is irrelevant; rules are written by those who are in power and they are often written to protect those who are in power.

Plenty of men and women who have chosen to speak truth to power have shared the distinction if being incarcerated to help protect those who are in power.

You know what's more detrimental to the chain of command than an inappropriate social media post? A chain of command that blatantly uses its subordinates as cannon fodder in war while it plays political games.

As a Veteran I totally agree with you.

If underlings are going to be blamed for “just following orders”, than this type of thing needs to be encouraged. Our military leadership has been drinking its own koolaid for too long and needs to be called out. The US military is an ineffective fighting force that hasn’t been making the world safer for a while and poses an existential threat to all of humanity. This can be remedied but not without acknowledging the absolute catastrophe that has been the last 20 years in Central Asia and Middle East.

Any direct order can be disregarded if it breaks with morals or what the soldiers think they are defending. The Nuremberg defense doesn’t bode well in court.

Of course they don’t like it and they are the most powerful group on the planet so there will be consequences. Social media is a bad place to do it because social media is a primary vector of warfare in 2021. He will likely be thrown in a cell and locked up for a while similar to others in the past who take on this cabal.

This man has the courage to stand up for himself and his men. We need him out of the military so he can do actual good in the world.

I understand your sentiment but again… there are proper channels to elevate this concerns. Even as a Lt Col if you feel that you don’t rub elbows high enough to impact policy and decision making you have ways.

Read on the story of Col. “Ned Stark”. He wrote a series of well thought out articles for the AF Military Times a few years ago. As a Colonel he had something to say and put pen to paper and published under a pseudonym. He thought if he would had come out with his real name he would be court martialed instead he got an invite from CSAF and was able to impact policy and decision making.

Once again I don’t disagree with Lt Col Scheller position, he made great points but he had other avenues and then to not follow a direct order on top of that?! I don’t know.

It’s sad he has lost everything he had worked so hard to include his family and kids. I wish he had sought better advice.

That was my first impression, take note people this how dictatorships and Tyrants silence the dissenters, we in the US has now officially a dictatorships and Tyrants running the nation

The democrats in power hates, hates America and Americans, no wonder they are allowing 3 world countries to invade the nation to make the born Americans a minority.

Even if this third world country people will turn the nation into crap, soo the Democrats can bring socialism, but the socialism is for the slaves not for the elite.

America is been taken over in front of our own eyes.

But Milley is a hero.

I hate the situation we are nationally in.

Biden is a fool. Milley is a fool. Our military is run by fools. Fools in charge of a nation, and defending that same nation, will bring its demise.

The first step towards wisdom, is separating yourself from all forms of foolishness.

There are many channels for us military members elevate concerns through our chain of command. Heck we can even go to the IG, Legal and other available channels.

You know what channel I would never use? Social media.

Yes. His problem is that he identified himself as a Marine Officer. If he would have made the same statements without doing that, there would be nothing that they could do. The First Amendment would cover him. Of course his statements would not have received the attention that they did.

What bothers me is that they are trying to spin this as him suffering from PTSD and they are saying that they are acting in his best interests. I thought that this sh*t only happened in bad movies.

They are definitely sending a warning to anybody else who might question what is going on.

I’m a hostage of the US Military? What kind of nonsense is this? Then again your sentiment doesn’t surprise me… in this site many are pro military and police until we do something that doesn’t line up with your politics.

BTW, in the U.S. military you have a right to refuse following an order you think is "unlawful." It is part of the uniform code of military Justice.

Article 90 states military personnel have to "obey lawful orders of his/her superior." You have a right not to follow unlawful orders such as those that go against the U.S. Constitution.

Yes you do. Now who determines if you were right and the order was illegal? There's the Catch-22

Funny how people use the Nazis as an example for this. What do you think would have happened to people like Eisenhower, Patton, Churchill and others if Germany had won the war?

Our senior military leadership is, has and always will be political animals. The system breeds them. If you are not a political animal you will not reach a position of senior leadership. US military history is full of examples.

At this point to be honest, I wish they can sweep this under PTSD. That way Lt Col and his family get some of the earned benefits he has accrued during his service. A bad conduct or dishonorable discharge gets him nothing.

I was going to be military at one time but health issues, such as flat feet, scoliosis killed that. My dad and his dad are former military who served honorably as well. And as someone under contract you are until your time is up essentially a hostage. you cannot openly talk about your superiors can you without punishment right? Then you are being restricted in your 1st amendment rights. You have to be on base at a certain time right or be punished right? Well then your right to movement is being violated. Your leaders are acting just like jailers.

So yes you are a hostage to the armys whims.

I agree to a point. The problem is that the Colonel had valid points. Slapping the PTSD label on him destroys any validity that those points have.

I don’t think it does. The PTSD is a valid medical diagnosis. There are plenty of brothers I know that have PTSD and are the most intelligent people out there.

Oh yes most people do not realize that when they sign up they are essentially becoming hostages to people who could care less about anything but their own careers. Sorry but that is the blunt truth.

The current military should be dismantled and rebuilt. All commanders/officers should have their ranks reset and no one should be higher than a captain. Then you would have a good start on a military that reflect american values.
