What's that. youngster? What do you mean, "Who?"

Jimmy Greaves was the celebrity English footballer of his time- the "Beckham", if you like (but perhaps that reference is also out of date).
Only accidental circusmstances kept him out of the team that won the World Cup final in 1966.

(He once inspired me to an atrocious pun. Writing a sketch for a school revue, I had someone being charged with "causing Greaves bodily harm".)

I'll see if I can find a goal-scoring video.

I'm too young to remember his playing days but my memories of Jimmy stem from the Saint & Greavsie football show he did with Ian St John in the 80s , his playing record speaks for itself .... legend.

RiP Greavsie , the Saint didn't have that long to wait to be joined by his old mate.

I've just had a Mandela Effect moment.

Could have sworn he checked out yonks ago.

Not really a football freak but I remember him from Saint and Greavsie in the late 80s.

Oh well.

Same here. I remember him for his commentary, with his unmistakable voice. It's quite sad to see so many familiar public figures passing on... I know it's inevitable as the years roll on, but still sad.

When I say 'yonks' I mean just a few months ago.

I definitely saw something on telly about Saint and Greavsie.

I was watching it half-heartedly but got the impression he had just died.

Thinking about it, could have been the other one, Ian St John.

What side that '66 team were.....Greavsie couldn't even get in the starting line-up.

I too never saw Greavsie play, but watched lots of videos etc, great goalscorer and cracking pundit.

I remember watching an interview with Jack Charlton and he was asked how he celebrated winning the World Cup.
He said he couldn't remember, all he did remember was waking up the next morning in someone's garden with Jimmy Greaves flat out beside him.
