U.S.A. is the first and only Hyperpower

I don't know if we are on about the same thing here. Americans are justifiably proud to be powerful, but how would they react if someone else was trying to take the top spot. Did I explain that better? i.e. If China became as wealthy and had a massive competant military and were about to take the top spot would America yield the top spot?
