Well, Summer is basically over where I'm at. We're busy this weekend cleaning the yard and doing transitional garden stuff.

We were busy picking the corn today before a big wind storm knocks it over. The kids were helping, they love eating all of the raw goodies from the garden. So, they had husked a few ears of sweet corn, and ate it (corn silk and all). Out of nowhere, our old girl Harley came from behind and very gently stole our 3 year old's corn cob.

Harley is 11 now, and I've never seen her so much as smell a piece of corn; but, for some reason, she ran away with it like it was a treasure. And, this might be up for interpretation, but I swear to baby jesus, she was laughing. I was able to take a few pictures, and you all tell me what you think.

Usually we'd get after her for taking anything from the kids, but it's not really in her nature, and it was just too funny. This will likely be one of her last summers with us, and I'm just glad she has all this spunk left.

What have your pets been up to lately?

Our buddy Roger, the black lab, rot, mix decided to go walkabout. He had been doing this for about six months, disappearing and coming home hours later, often wet from the river. We found him tow days later up the road, picked him up and buried him with Sassy and Lucy, gone but not forgotten.

Sasha, came to us about 4 months ago, via rescue who found her wandering around in the next state. Sasha is a Siberian Husky who was deathly afraid of me for weeks and we suppose that she was abused by a male brutalizer. She has come around to me now and we all get along fine.

Boots however our last cat could only put up with so much from a young pup like Sasha ad said, enough and also went walk about several months ago. Boots was with us for about ten years. Traded a pair of boots for her hence, Boots.

How, our grand daughter has allowed us her two kittens to live with us. Blacky and Bluey. Bluey is a Russian Blue and quite exploratory. He is standing at my office door right now looking out at the big world with wonder. Blacky is more skitty. Will still run for cover if you cough or walk in his direction. Sasha however is jealous of both but otherwise is not bothered by them and the other way around as well. Well, other than we still need to keep her from eating their food.

We to have to retrain ourselves. I had left my cherished coffee cup on the counter next to the sink and during a nap we hear a crash and found it in pieces on the kitchen floor.

Pretty soon we will have to let the cats outside to see how they fair. Put food out for them as well and hope that their forays into the great unknown do not leave them prey for other wilder critters. We refuse to make cats house only cats, it just ain't right. A couple of months more a acclimating to our food and home base instincts should do it.

Sorry to hear about Boots and Roger. 🙁

Why do Huskies get vaguely Slavic names alot? We had one named Nikita, she was a runner. She'd run away a few times a year, and we'd drive around town with a stick of pepperoni out the window until she found us.

I've always loved black cats, but a Russian Blue, 😍. I think I just love cats in general.

Here's mine, Hermes, doing what he does best. He doesn't go OUTSIDE outside, but he has a large space out on the deck where he likes to threaten the birds and sun his big belly.

I don't usually use the word "retarded", but... is there any other word to describe him?

She is Sasha cuz my wife won out. As ususal. I wanted to go with Heyou.

I love cats as well. My dad had a thing against them and trained me and my sibs against them. He would bring home a new release of ''One hundred Ways to Kill a Cat and we would all go into hysterics. My dad was wrong.

We had a Maine Coon a while back. He was rescue as well. Had him for two weeks and still no name had come to mind. Well my wifes at least. I was ready to settle for ''Heyou'' when I told her ''It really wants it's name''. She thought for moment pondering ''it really wants it's name'' and said that's it. I said, ''What?.. It Really Want's It's Name. IRWIN. Boom we knew we had it.

Irwin went walkabout several years ago as well. We live out in the country with hills on one side and a river on the other and a road down the middle. They stay for as long as they want until they don't. During Irwins stay and before was Applecat who we had found in an apple tree as a kitten after having been open window tossed by a moving car managing to crawl up the tree for safety. Applecat and I used to go for late night walks up and then back down the road. Only cat that would walk along with our ''walks''. The dogs would but no other cats. Little tail up in the air swaying back and forth.

Years later Applecat went via a squad of turkey vultures.

I used to like eating raw corn right from the field. As long as it is not all full of pesticides it is ok to eat one raw. I do not know about eating more than one raw, it does seem to mess up your stomach after eating over one for some reason which I am not sure why that is. I suppose eating more than one ear even cooked in a row might screw up the gut too.

I personally really detest corn just as it is. I'll eat it really roasted with lots of seasonings, or Mexican style with chili and lime and cheese, etc. I really like corn bread.

Other than that, just the kids eat it, and we give away a ton.
