The UFWD is a powerful “secret” weapon being used by Xi and China to paint China in a positive light while glossing over its atrocities and dubious ambitions with sometimes deadly force. While its focus was once internal, it is now seeking to expand its influence through outright bribes to politicians and college leaders, indoctrination through its thousands of Confuscious skools around the world, and an all-out assault on the interwebs in an attempt to further its agenda of a world wide communist state. This program is so important that a BBC 2 TV program claimed that its budget is over $3 billion. The following article lays out the history and foundation of the UFWD.
www.tandfonline.com...

Why is all of this important? Well it seems to have started in 2017 when Aussie Senator Sam Dastyari was forced to resign after he suddenly started talking in overly favorable terms on everything Chinese. Turns out he was on the Chinese payroll along with a suspected 40 other politicians. The guy's book in this article was suspended by its publishers in Australia due to the Commie Chinese influence with fear of legal reprisals. And of course, the Chinese claimed it was racist….same ole playbook eh.
www.npr.org...

And in this article, a prominent Aussie businessman-turned whistleblower was murdered when he refused a bribe from the Chinese to run for the Senate.
A large part of the UWFD is to enlist Chinese descendants with local passports in foreign countries….bribing and sometimes using force to get said people to do what they want.

“The program on Sunday claimed that Nick Zhao, a 32-year-old Liberal Party member and Melbourne luxury car dealer, was offered $1 million by Chinese agents to run in the federal elections and infiltrate the country's parliament.
He refused the offer and instead told Australia's spy agency. He was later found dead in a Melbourne hotel room.”

www.businessinsider.com...

But the influence is not just in politics…its in the education system with so-called Confuscious skools. These skools, meant to teach Mandarin, now wield powerful influence with massive “donations”. Instead they teach a watered down version while getting Chinese nationals at said skools to quell any protests that may make China look bad.

This kid was expelled for 2 years after organizing a protest of the treatment of Hong Kong…even though he was beaten up by a gang of 200 chinese students. Oh, did we mention that once said influence begins….a massive influx of Chinese students begins??

Chinese police questioning family members in China and Hong Kong about students studying in Aussie skools.

And these skools are not just in Oz…they are all over America.
www.politico.com...

And in the UK, Chinese “students” come to high level colleges, steal the tech and then patent it in China. The US State Dept calls it Steal, Replicate and Replace.

So when you are shopping for that cheap plastic crap on the interwebs….remember to whom your dollar is going……..

This sounds like an extension of the 'Thousand Eyes" program. Which to my understanding is professionals in large companies and professors doing three safe thing, stealing info and tech, then sending it back to China.

This has been observed and confirmed by the US government to be happening.

Yes the Chinese represent a growing threat, but ask yourselves why the BBC would release such a documentary right now (esp in light of BBC’s own peculiar biases demonstrated by protecting pedophile criminal Jimmy Saville for decades, and most recently by shutting down and ridiculing anyone who questioned the so-called “vaccine”).

That doco is meant to draw Aussie, NZ, Canadian, US and Brit focus away from their own sorry oppression of the last 3 years by their own governments. (Anyway, shining a light on ‘revelations that the Chinese govt buys influence or uses Chinese students and people to collect intel’ is a bit like CIA asset Julian Assange warning us our phones are tapped by the CIA; Something we have known since about 1920.)

How can I make this claim? Chinese grad students started to become fixtures at every major US science or medical university by about 1990. Every one of them carried a bilingual name card, English on one side, and Chinese on the other, which they invariably passed to anyone they met in more than just passing. I met upwards of 40-50 Chinese grad students -men and women alike- all doing graduate work in hard sciences…mining, aerospace, chemical, electrical, or petroleum engineering during the early 1990s when attending a famous Uni in Texas. Studying Chinese language myself, I went out of my way to meet and engage these folks in conversation to practice speaking etc.

Of course I received many dozens of name cards and one common factor always amazed me: The English language side just had name and dept in which they studied, but the Chinese language side of every name card listed/ showed that person’s true affiliation with the Chinese space agency, or the Chinese Navy, Army or Airforce, or Research Institute or whatever, and often even denoted a military rank!

While perhaps not widely known beyond relatively few Americans who read Chinese, it is not possible that state of affairs escaped the notice of the US and all other Western intel agencies. To spotlight a Chinese businessman buying influence for Aus $150,000 is correct. But as influence is bought & sold daily in London, Washington, Ottawa, and Canberra at prices orders-of-magnitude greater (add several zeroes) by local unscrupulous players, you can be sure this BBC doco is but smoke and mirrors to draw your attention away from something else.

Cheers….

Why focus on the one BBC source? There are a dozen other sources in my OP...none of which are BBC related. The BBC 2 program was just a catalyst for me to look further into things.

It's a sticky situation.

There are plenty of Chinese that have emigrated to the US, because they believe in the American Dream, love this country and have no interest in helping the CCP.

There are plenty of Chinese *pretending* to be a member of those described above, but are actively working against US interests and in favor of the CCP.

This doesn't even address the tangentially related threat of the CCP paying to influence or even outright buying out US/Western politicians.

The seeds of this problem were sewn decades ago as Western businesses engaged in wholesale flight from the West, and helped transform China into the economic powerhouse it is now.

If we (the West) hadn't economically inflated China with the exodus of our manufacturing infrastructure, much of this espionage business would be moot. Chinese nationals or even Americans of Chinese descent, feeding sensitive information back to China, would be about as harmful as someone doing the same to Indonesia. Our info would be making it's way back to an impoverished, over-populated country without the means to capitalize on our sensitive information. However, not only are we leaking tech and trade secret data to them, but we gave them the fat bank account to actually make use of our sensitive info, through our lax trade policies from the 90's onward.

There are no easy answers to this.

In 2016 a US president was elected on a platform to curb Chinese aggression and unfair trade practices, including copyright theft and data theft. Now that president has been replaced with Jo Bai-dan. Huh. Go figure.

Meh, peeps be pre-occupied with Covid or the story du jour.

I mean this IS tied to Covid really. Does one honestly think China has zero cases??? Riiiiiight.

Makes me wonder how many US senators/professors are on the payroll.
