Sean has been a staple of the British comedy scene for a couple of decades or so as both a stand up comedian and comedy show panelist , mostly known as a team captain on 8 Out of 10 Cats Sean was a regular contributor on Have I Got News for You , QI and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

Sadly today his management team have announced that Sean has died following a battle with Cancer , he will be sadly missed.

"Sean was one of Britain's finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work, marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy.

"Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children. Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him. We kindly request that the privacy of his family and children is respected at this difficult time."

For me Sean was one of Britain's finest comedians , his wit and delivery were second to none.

RiP Sean , deepest sympathy to family and friends.

I've seen quite alot of this guy.

Intelligent, witty, surreal and very funny.

Such a shame.

I was genuinely gutted when I read about this earlier today.

He had a unique act and style.

His children's book the tiger that went out for a pint should have been a best seller.

Just heard on the 1 O'Clock news.

Quite a shock. Bit younger than me.

Never really went for his comedy, I have to say.

Yep, life's fickle.

Damn as an American I've really grown to love 8 out of 10 Cats and their spin-off Countdown series. He was a truly funny man and you could tell his castmates really liked him. Hate to hear this... really sad and depressing

When you've got someone that can shock Jimmy Carr with his comments you know you've found a very rare individual.

Carr is what got me starting to watch EOOTC and EOOTC does Countdown. They all had great chemistry and while I know those shows are just a small part, those shows won't be the same without Sean Lock. Hell, his interactions with Miles Jupp were hilarious.

(RIP)

Going to have to check out his other works...

You know you're getting old when the comedians who die are not the ones you grew up with.

Some of the best bits of eight out of ten cats does countdown were watching the other comedians losing the plot crying with laughter when he was on the ball.

A number of them including I think miles jupp have been.known to beg him to stop as they can't cope with the laughter.

Yeah, gotta say, that is a complete bastard. As losses go, it's about as # huge as they get. RIP.

To me it's a bit of a reality check.

You get acoustmed to losing the previous generations stars and personalities but when it's your own it's somewhat unsettling.

Honestly, I'm not fearful of dying, it's all the sh!t that happens when you're alive that's the problem. And when you have someone who can cut through that, like Sean Lock could, and brighten the moment if even for the briefest of reprieves, then they should be celebrated for the light that they were. These days, we need more light, not less of it.
