An EMP would not have selectively knocked out a ship's ability to steer while sparing its ability to communicate that it was not long "under command
That was my thought too. But to a point, those ships clearly had power issues. But how?
What would it take, and would it even be possible, to foul the propellers, maybe using a heavy chain or some other device?
The UK Maritime Trade Organisation, which first revealed something had happened to the Asphalt Princess, said in an update on its website: "Boarders have left the vessel. Vessel is safe. Incident complete."

Getting interesting
Russia is still pouring hardware into Crimea and eastern Ukraine
Iran keeps humping legs for attention and shortly will get a huge response, but not a war
But the real threat and danger is in the south Chiba sea
Oh and COVID19 is a bio weapon, just waiting for the tip/warhead to be activated
Boy oh boy if WWIII kicks of itās going to be insanely lethal

I believe that ānot under commandā means that the rudder is not responding to commands from the helm. Could just mean that someone physically jammed or disabled the rudders of these ships.
The question is why is Iran doing this at this particular time?
I think it has to have something to do with the negotiations to restore limitations on their nuclear program. Seems like they either want to scuttle those negotiations entirely or come out the other side with a better deal (I.e., fewer sanctions).

I recall several years ago that the gps system was jammed and spoofed and was able to cause issues with communications and navigation. Does any of the issues that happened today relate to the use of the gps system?
