WASHINGTON, July 19 (Reuters) - U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland formalized a new policy on Monday that broadly prohibits prosecutors from subpoenaing reporters' phone and email records, an abrupt shift after the Trump administration secretly seized records from several major news outlets in an effort to root out leaks.
In addition to the new policy, Garland reiterated that the Justice Department would also throw its support behind new media shield legislation to make the policy permanent.

Two years ago, the DOJ Inspector General reported that numerous Media outlets had reporters and journalists granting favors to top government officials, in return for information...much of it highly classified. The I.G. has been in the process of investigating government officials and journalists since.
Today, the Biden Administration put a stop to investigating journalists and reporters, in most circumstances.

In Your Opinion...Why is the Biden Administration so keen on protecting media personnel who expose classified, or sensitive, or confidential information?
Could Garland be attempting to buy "favor" from reporters and journalists, after the New York Times exposed some very embarrassing information about the inner-workings of the Biden White House?

They are keen on it because most of the journalists and media outlet darlings are married to government officials.

With this President and Administration, Conservative media outlets could have a field-day with these new "protections" in place.

Well looking at the questions they are asked, easy questions then it’s a no brainer for them right..!?
Who's asking questions of whom?
The list of prominent news people with close White House relations includes ABC News President Ben Sherwood, who is the brother of Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, a top national-security adviser to President Obama. His counterpart at CBS, news division president David Rhodes, is the brother of Benjamin Rhodes, a key foreign-policy specialist. CNN’s deputy Washington bureau chief, Virginia Moseley, is married to Tom Nides, who until earlier this year was deputy secretary of state under Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Further, White House press secretary Jay Carney’s wife is Claire Shipman, a veteran reporter for ABC. And NPR’s White House correspondent, Ari Shapiro, is married to a lawyer, Michael Gottlieb, who joined the White House counsel’s office in April.

Until they are classified as not valid media outlets and thus get no protections.
