Lack of skills is not why I wouldn't help. I've had many first aid classes in the military. People have been sued for helping accident victims and that is why I would not provide help. I would just call 911

Ah now we get to the core of things. I really shouldn't have expected this to be normal, it's unthinkable here to not help, not only because of the law. I can understand your reasoning better now with the additional info.

You also have to know that I have personal history and if not for strangers going out of their way, we would not have this discussion. Maybe they would not even have found me, someone gave first aid to me while the ambulance arrived. It may have been to late if not for the person who I never found out or got any name.

Another poster mentioned training needed for people to know this.

I have never been trained in this, however I thought of all the things that ThatDamnDuckAgain mentioned. It just requires a bit of a brain. Most people don't have much brain power unfortunately.

At least somebody!

Yes but there are some things you should know that can kill you. That's why it's preferable to have a special course. It's mandatory here and you have to pass to get your license.

If you ever aproach a car with an injured helpless person and the car has crashed / is deformed but the airbag didn't ignite, it could still ignite while leaning in. Your probably dead if it ignites on head height and there's a passenger in the seat.

It can kill you both! So you check with your eyes if the person has any injuries, especially the neck. Always speak loudly and a ounce what you're going to do next in case the person can still hear you or freaks out after waking up. Most will be in a shock

. If you're right handed and on the driver's side, you go down on one knee, facing forwards and looking away from the car and then you reach inside to unlock the belt with your hands reaching in at belly height. Unlock the belt if you do kit have a belt cutter. Don't use a knife if you can unlock because these belts are hard to cut by design you could hurt the victim trying to cut it!

Then you tend to the feet, you make sure they are not locked up and you put the feet towards the passenger side.

Then you get up, head over the top of the car to protect you. You reach in with both hands and try to turn the person so it's back faces towards you. Then you grab them by the shoulders and you pull it out 45 degree angled towards behind the car.

Make sure the feet don't lock up under the pedals again and drag the person to safety.

There's a # tone more to do before and after like securing the accident first bevor you do anything then you call police and ambulance. But if you remember the above technique you know enough to not get yourself and the victim killed by an airbag.

Crazy vid man !!

Reminded me of this local story from a few years ago. No vid though :

UPDATE: SPEEDING CAR MANAGES TO JUMP OVER HIGHWAY 20 IN DORVAL,

( Sorry for the all-caps title, but it's copy/pasted like that from source. )

Can remember reading that story, looking at Neptune Blvd. and wondering how fast the car must have been going.

What exactly is "wrong heroism"? Saving a human life that deserved to die in a car accident?

Most of us are not smart enough to know who deservers to live, and who deserves to die.

Maybe 'smart' isn't the right word ... ?
