I believe we could be on the brink of basing the economy in virtual reality, where real life outside of virtual will be used simply to enjoy real life and time away from the simulator inside the simulator.

In light of Covid, we've actually had an intense amount of demand—about a 1,000 percent increase," Anand Agarawala, Spatial's CEO and cofounder, tells me in a beautiful virtual room filled with sunlight and surrounded by mountains. "Zoom is not a good replacement for being in the office with other people, whereas something like VR gives you that level of presence and personification."

A lot of people working remote now. VR will help that along...

Yes it will, glad to get back on topic.

What will be interesting is what happens to all that office space? In our building talk is converting half the floors to a hotel and casino. But still you start moving jobs form those offices there were businesses that counted on that daily traffic.

One reason I believe it's a prime real estate grab. But I digress...

I love thinking about the future and what-ifs, One of my favorite books was the People's Almanac did way back in the '80s about the future with all these experts making predictions in a Book of list form.

I'm talking about virtual teleportation which would in no way be comparable to actual teleportation.

What ?
"Virtual Teleportation"
Is that even a thing ?
If you have one , you don't need the other.

It's a bad idea from the start.

- Social interactions suffer, especially the children that need facial expressions, with real depth, not simulated.
- More invasion of privacy since everything you communicate goes over wire or public networks
- Microsoft will soon launch their VOIP integration into office 365, they will kill a lot of telecommunication business and you can bet on them integrating some analysis functions as soons as they gained traction and monopolize.
- Most people do not do well with VR, I do but I won't assume this for others.
- This is only possible for white collar jobs without physical interaction

Sure there are fields of work where it would make sense but nothing beats true 1:1 communication. Yes it would benefit the climate for sure.

But I think we should first start with the 700+ new coal power plants in China and diesel ships before we place the burden on the people and consume even more electricity. I do think it would level out because the computer's would run anway and I think it doesn't matter much if the network hardware is local or using the internet. Both consume electricity.

Dumbest ... idea ... ever.

For one simple reason.

The answer to your last question is a resounding, deafening, earthshaking NO WAY IN HELL, NOT AT ALL, NEVER, NOT EVEN FOR A SECOND.
