Military
The Korean People's Army encompasses the army, navy and air force and has 1.08 million active personnel and 4.7 million in reserves.

Military expenditures account for 31.3 percent of GDP expenditures, making North Korea --- dollar for dollar --- the world's most militaristic state.

Nearly one out of every four citizens serves in some military capacity.

North Korea is said to have an extensive chemical weapons program. A report by the Federation of American Scientists says that North Korea has chemical stockpiles of at least 180-250 tons of reserve-weaponized agents.

North Korea also reportedly has a biological weapons program based at the National Defense Research Institute and Medical Academy. This program is not as extensive as the chemical weapons program.

North Korea has the fourth largest military in the world, according to the U.S. State Department. About 20 percent of North Korean men ages 17 to 54 are part of the armed forces, and nearly 23 percent of the country's gross domestic product goes to military spending.

The majority of North Korea's 1.2 million active forces are stationed within 65 km of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that divides North and South Korea.

So a priest, rabbi, and a fireman walk into a bar. The Fireman says, "Wow, you were right, this isn't the steakhouse."

Ha Ha! Get it? Steakhouse! Ha Ha!

Anyway, here's a rabbit with a pancake on his head.

Active forces: 1.2 million
Reserves: More than 5 million
Special operations forces: 100,000

Korean People's Army (KPA)
The largest branch of the North Korean military is the Korean People's Army, or KPA.

996,000 ground forces
3,800 main battle tanks
2,270 armored personnel carriers
11,200 artillery pieces

KPA Navy
North Korea's navy is divided into two fleets: the East Sea and the West Sea fleets.

48,000 personnel
430 combat vessels
40 submarines (26 attack subs)
340 support ships

KPA Air Force
There are six divisions in North Korea's air force: 3 combat divisions, 2 for transport and 1 for training.

103,000 personnel
850 combat aircraft
820 support aircraft and helicopters

Missile capability
North Korea is believed to have between 600 and 750 ballistic missiles in its arsenal, with several more in development.

Missile Range Inventory/status
Nodong 1,300 km 100 missiles built
Taepodong I 1,300 km Believed to be under development
Taepodong II Could reach U.S. sites in Guam, Alaska, U.S. West Coast Believed to be under development

Artillery

North Korea has an estimated 13,000 hardened artillery sites, many of the pieces aimed at targets in and around the South Korean capital, Seoul.
Like much of North Korea's armed forces, they are well camouflaged and bunkered in.
4,000 are near the DMZ and 200 to 300 in range of Seoul.
U.S. officials believe every fourth round has a chemical tip.

Chemical/Biological weapons

North Korea has the world's third largest stock of chemical weapons.
Included in the arsenal is mustard gas, phosgene, sarin and V-agents.
Pyongyang also has an active biological weapons program.
Its inventory is believed to include anthrax, botulism, cholera, hemorrhagic fever, plague, smallpox, typhoid and yellow fever.

Nuclear capability

North Korea announced in February 2005 that it possesses nuclear weapons.
U.S. intelligence estimates North Korea has enough weapons grade plutonium for two to five nuclear devices.
The U.S. also says it believes North Korea has began reprocessing spent nuclear fuel rods which, if successful, could contain enough plutonium to produce between six to 12 nuclear weapons.

Seven US CVNs are available and deployable to the Korean Peninsula at the end of 2005. B-52, B-1B, B-2 bombers, and F117B Stealth fighters are already in Guam.

Watch for it toward the end of 2005.

Here are 6 facts that I'd like to present. North Korea wouldn't stand a chance.

United States: Population:
293,027,571 (July 2004 est.)

North Korea: Population:
22,697,553 (July 2004 est.)

United States: Military manpower - availability:
males age 15-49: 73,597,731 (2004 est.)

North Korea: Military manpower - fit for military service:
males age 15-49: 3,694,855 (2004 est.)

United States: GDP:
purchasing power parity - $10.99 trillion (2003 est.)

North Korea: GDP:
purchasing power parity - $29.58 billion (2003 est.)

Would China dare step in on the North Korean side? My answer is: If they do, we will continue to reduce our nuclear arms even more.

The entire world is no match for the United States. This is not my opinion.

I would imagine china would side with North Korea. United States would side with japan. I think the best route with North Korea are negotiations as our army and marines are spread out pretty thin as they are. My dad, who lived in korea, said the koreans can get pretty fierce. I just hate to think that a war in asia would definately involve china, may be russia. If we were to invade the first part of the war would be strategic. I would not put it past north korea to resort to using nukes.

we have a larger military still...and we would destroy much of their army by air before we went up against them anyways, so in the end size doesnt matter.

Mr. analyzer, are you trying to instigate a war? One against a regime that has declared that they wouldn't why away from using nuclear weapons? Why?

Why would North Korea start a war that is absolutely impossible win? The most they could hope to accomplish is national suicide. If they were to Nuke anyone anywhere it would be over for them, and without the threat of nukes, their military is just another cruise missle and stealth aircraft target.
