If he is taking half decent milky way photos, using a 20 mgp camera, I would assume he is using a fast wide lens. Lets also assume the camera is a
full frame sensor (i'm going by the quick photo showed, and assuming its his) so he would have a high iso set.
As not to get too much streaking in the stars the shutter would be open 5 sec give or take (unless he is using a tracker)
So yes it does look like some motion blur. Still interesting. If I'm close with my numbers, this would have been one bright search type light with a
rather fast flashing red light. Travelling around the speed of a helicopter.
I question why he didn't take more than a few shots
