Harry has his mojo back and I take it all back about Shaw. We can dream now.

I remember when we lost to Germany a while back the commentator said "We shouldn't be upset that Germany has beaten us at our national game. We beat them twice, at theirs"

I think that's a variant of what was said BEFORE the 1966 final. I remember it as "We've already beaten them twice at their national game, let's see if we can beat them in our own."

You are right. Memories tend to fade with age!

You cant be serious?

I am most serious. It blows away the argument that playing all their group games at home was an advantage.

It wasn't though. Or do you think they won that game?

I dont see how it does if they progressed through to the next stage.

Anyone with half a football brain will tell you that playing at home is an advantage. Even if they lost a game which should never have been played.

What advantage would San Marino have in playing England at home?

It's all down to the quality of the teams at the end of the day. If home advantage meant anything, every country that hosted the FIFA World Cup would do well. They don't.

That is why I refuse to get carried away with all the hype.

Seen it oh so many times before.

But......

At least we're not playing Iceland...still shudder at that memory.

I agree that home advantage has lessened over the last few decades. Science, technology and loads of money has been introduced to make the visiting team feel "more at home".

However, playing at home has been advantageous for many teams, at least in the World Cup Tournament...

Six times the host nation has won the tournament. Eight times they have made the final. Thirteen times the hosts have at least made the semi-finals.

I'm sorry but if England do win through to the final tomorrow night I can't see them having the intensity that either of these sides have.
Yet again Italy look very, very good - they play so unItaly like.

As I've said previously'; they'll tear us another arsehole.

Small matter of tomorrow's game first.

Some of us dare to dream, still.

Triumph of hope over experience. Again.

Extra time. Chiesa is just well good.

Penalties? Spain not good at them.

Toe to toe stuff. Can either team keep up this intensity?

Finished large Donner kebab.

Come on Spain!

Bag of Cheese n Onion and a bag of Pickled Onion for me.

I thought I'd show my support for Spain by partaking in a bottle of Rioja.

Not being a big wine drinker I haven't got a large selection of wine in the house but I was sure I had a bottle somewhere.
I couldn't find it so I decided to switch allegiance to Italy; I was 100% certain I had a case and a half of Peroni.

Having made a large dent in the supply of Peroni I thought I'd warm up for tomorrow night and have a sneaky Gordons Gin and Tonic which I planned to celebrate with - hopefully I am not putting the horse before the cart here - tomorrow night.
Obviously I also have a large supply of John Smiths ready.

Well have a guess what?
No gin.

It seems like the drink fairy has been helping herself and 'forgetting' to let me know.
2 bottles of Mateus Rose gone and half a bottle of Kraken Rum as well.

She is banished to the spare bed.

I had no doubts... Questa è una squadra speciale!

Flashbacks to 2006... such sufferance, such joy!

Trust your Uncle Mike.

I had a dream about Beckham getting a red card for a petulant kick on the floor against an Argentine player the night before the game.

Woke up and said to Mrs Carpy why did he do that? Then he did.

Don't get to predict lottery numbers unfortunately

They say we are always a little bit behind the rest of the UK, its only just found its way to the North East.

Anyway, isn't 70's retro all the rage nowadays?

Trust Uncle Mike?
I'd love to....but I'll believe it when I see Mama Cass belting out the John Barnes rap on Sunday night.
