Los Angeles is a small city and what you would call the Los Angeles metroplex is a lot bigger area and just as dangerous.
The Los Angeles metroplex runs from the coast to San Bernardino and from Lancaster Calif to Costa Mesa calif..

Hmm I don’t know about that. As far as economic breakdown goes - it’s always easier to find a job in a big city.

What? LA has a population of around four million and is the second largest city in the nation. That's not including the surrounding metro area.

The saying "hindsight is 20/20" is an understatement. If I go back 30 years, I'd pinch EVERY penny until Lincoln was bruised and saved until I could pay cash for a decent chunk of land out in the sticks in a secluded area with little to no traffic.

On that land, directly in the middle, I would have built my own little cabin, big enough for me, and for a backup a small airplane hanger, made that a stronghold against high winds during storms. No electricity and with an outhouse. I would have built my main cabin by a river and attached a waterwheel to produce what little electricity I would need.

I'd have planted a garden, which would be a piece of cake since all my grandparents had fairly big gardens.

I'd have relied more on manual power and less on "the grid". Lots of people have been doing it for decades, even more so the last one or two decades.

AND dug the dirt and dropped two boxcars side by side and built a bugout shelter.

As tech advanced I would have added solar, tankless water heater, and compost toilet.

The only issue I would have is meat. I don't care for fish, I don't hunt, and even though I have worked in a meat department, I couldn't kill an animal. Don't have it in me. So I'd have to find someone who does all that and make trade with fruits and vegetation and maybe wood, access to my land, whatever it would take to get my hands on steak. And chicken. And pork.

I don't want to be in a city of ANY size when it all falls apart, and it will. Soon? Don't know but it's looking like the day the SHTF is fast approaching.

And because of poor life decisions I am screwed. I'm overweight, have health issues, damn near penniless and have no contacts I consider close friends and my family is all but dead.

Meh. Too late to regret, but if any of you are in your 20s and 30s, stop what you're doing on focus on your future, because YOU are the only one you can truly rely on to give a crap about YOUR future.

Rely on NO ONE. People change during drastic times.
