Pretty spectacular footage of the flight up to the Fagradalsfjall volcano's caldera has been released by youtuber Joey Helms , sadly the volcano ate his helicopter.

Watch the brand new DJI FPV drone crash right into the exploding lava fountain of Iceland's newest volcano - Fagradalsfjall in the Geldingadalir valley. This unique HD footage provides a rare view right into the volcano's caldera and lava fountain during one of its geysir-like eruptions.

Nature at its fiery best.

I reckon the heat must have warped the blades, silly and expensive mistake, but still, awesomely good footage, thanks for sharing

well that`s awsome footage, first i thought what a noob he didn`t even get 10 min flight with his drone, then I watched till the end and thought is this a good or a bad advertisement move to give away the best shot at the beginning...

is it worth it?

That'll leave an interesting inclusion in that igneous rock for someone to find in a few thousand years

A chunk of lava flew up and hit it. Instantly melted mid flight. You can see the camera lense melting as soon as the lava hits it.

Man, all cool but he could do the same with a 100 bucks drone.

People have been droning that volcano for a while.

It was only a matter of time until one of them got eaten.

Anyone talking about the cost should remember that these videos get millions of views...

The eye of Sauron strikes again!
Who needs CGI when you can get the real deal?

I don't think it was a mistake.

When first reading through the replies on this page, I assumed it was a random unexpected lava bomb that came up and got him, but after watching the video, I'm pretty sure he knew it was a suicide mission. He flew directly into it.

He said he had been there for a couple of days. He was probably low on battery power, and tired of lugging that thing around, and didn't feel like carrying it back to the car.

Cool footage regardless.

I gave you a star because I like your thought process, but I do have to disagree.

Drones and ancillary equipment aren't cheap, and by their very nature aren't too heavy.

I reckon he gone-done messed-up, lol

I wonder what Truemans views are,

Hmmm -1200$ to save lifting a few pounds. What a time to be alive.
