I love the dirty sound of the guitar.

It's a little moment in time from a live performance in Sunderland, England in 1970.


The guitarist is Paul Kossoff who died tragically young at 25.

But if I hear one more time that he died of 'drugs', I think I'll chew my fist off.

Wikipedia has his cause of death as Drug induced heart attack.

No evidence it was drug-induced!

He died of pulmonary embolism on a long haul flight from LA to New York. Well, pulmonary embolism is associated with flying, particularly long flights. Flying is a risk factor. Probably not that well known in the mid 70s.

Yes he abused drugs. Quaaludes seems to have been Kossoff's personal choice, although I gather he dabbled in lots of them.

Not aware that any drug of abuse causes blood clots. Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

Kossoff was a great guitarist. Everyone from Clapton to Hendrix admired him. His solo on Mr. Big is one of the coolest ever recorded. It's slow and eerie. Insane bends and vibrato. After Koss's solo, Andy Fraser does a bass solo, with Koss providing a thick sonic wall of beautiful chords.
