New owners of a house have found a dead baby that was packed into a suitcase in their attic. Police have stated that the infant was found wrapped in black bin bags and discovered in the property situated in Merthyr Tydfil on Sunday. The householder who is in his 20s made the find after noticing a smell coming from a piece of luggage while he was unpacking.

Tests are underway to establish the age and the sex of the child; it is not currently known how long the body has been there. Previous occupants of the house are being traced who may be able to provide clues to the mystery.

Cops are now trying to trace former occupants of the house who could provide clues to the mystery.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Richards, of South Wales Police, said "Until we establish what the cause of the events was, we can only treat it as suspicious.

"We don't know what happened, we don't know how the child died."

One neighbour said: "I'm totally shocked. I can't get the thought out of my head of him opening the suitcase and finding that. Obviously he doesn't want to live in the house now."

Another local resident added: "It made me feel cold. It has come as a real shock, it is just not what you expect. It is a very quiet cul-de-sac."

Another horrible story involving minors. This is obviously not an accident and the way the baby died will be a big issue. Whether it was suffocated, poisoned or had a natural death is yet to be know, but will shed light on the motive of the incident. More updates as they come.

Thanks - added the BBC link to the original post.

Just a question - Why is this news article receiving 'no' votes? Anyone who has voted 'no' care to answer?

Well Wales in general is still extremly stoked from being World Grand Slam champs in Rugby. But I visited the area and I just saw a slew of Heddus (Police in Welsh) gathered around the area as well as loads of UK media.
